The Karl Urban movie still picking up new fans on streaming is Dredd, not Mortal Kombat II, the separate reported $80 million project some headlines have been folding into the story.
Dredd, the 2012 sci-fi action movie, drew strong reviews for its hard-edged, comic-faithful take, Karl Urban’s performance in the lead, and its visual style. But strong word of mouth didn’t do much for it at the box office. It finished with about $41 million worldwide against an estimated $30 million to $45 million budget, then went on to find a much larger audience through home video and streaming charts.
If you missed Dredd the first time around, now’s a good time to catch it: weak marketing hurt it, so did the lingering bad taste from 1995’s Judge Dredd, plus the R rating and a crowded release window. Even so, fan support never really disappeared. Karl Urban has said he’d come back, and reports from early 2026 connected a new Judge Dredd feature to Taika Waititi and Drew Pearce, though Urban wasn’t confirmed.
The movie attached to the $80 million talk is Mortal Kombat II, with Karl Urban showing up there as Johnny Cage, and its 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray release is set for July 2026. Dredd, meanwhile, is the one you can actually go find on streaming and home video.
