Who develops Mario & Luigi: Brothership?
Behind Mario & Luigi: Brothership is an RPG developed by the studio Acquire. Founded in 1994, the company is quite well-known for being the creators of Tenchu, one of the most beloved games of the first PlayStation.
During these thirty years, Acquire has been involved in a multitude of projects, each more diverse than the last. However, one of the biggest changes the company has undergone is that it was acquired in 2024 by Kadokawa Corporation, one of the Japanese giants with a presence in numerous areas (it owns almost 70% of From Software, the creators of Elden Ring or Dark Souls, for example).
In recent years, Acquire has developed Mario & Luigi: Brothership. This is the first installment received from the series in almost a decade, as you have to go back to 2015, with Paper Jam, to find its last video game. Additionally, it is also the first time the saga falls into the hands of another team, as all previous video games were developed by AlphaDream (a studio that sadly closed in 2019 due to accumulated debts).
What is Mario & Luigi: Brothership?
The story of Mario & Luigi: Brothership revolves around the world of Concordia. This continent has fractured into numerous islands, so its former inhabitants are now separated by the sea. The mission of the brothers is very simple: to unite all the islands and discover the origin of the disaster.
From this plot, Mario & Luigi: Brothership presents the player with a gameplay where turn-based combat is the predominant feature. Although a simpler and more accessible system is used than usual in the genre, this does not mean that what is presented is not fun. In fact, one of the biggest peculiarities of the game is that navigating between islands generates a wide variety of biomes, making exploration a significant aspect. Likewise, the brothers will be accompanied by many friends, such as Conetta or Porcopolo, among many others.
The already classic battles will be the center of everything, but in Mario & Luigi: Brothership we will also have many minigames, as well as puzzles that we will have to find a solution for.
