Almost two years after Paramount+’s Evil first got pulled into its cancellation limbo, Mike Colter says season 5 talks did happen, and there was a real creative path for more episodes. The hold-up wasn’t the story. It was the calendar. Colter said he and Evil creators Robert King and Michelle King are busy with Cupertino, the pair’s new CBS legal thriller. Reports say it has a 20-episode order, so getting everyone back in the same place may be harder than coming up with what happens next.
That stings for a reason. Paramount+ canceled Evil in February 2024, before the series finished its fourth season in August. Robert King and Michelle King did manage to secure four extra episodes, and those basically worked as a compact fifth season, but they didn’t tie off everything. Kristen Bouchard’s husband still had story left. There was also the possible connection between one of Kristen Bouchard’s daughters and Leland Townsend, plus David Acosta’s growing supernatural abilities, which the show hadn’t finished exploring. If you’ve been following Evil, this is the kind of update you watch closely. The series ended while people still loved it and while it was still performing: reviews were strong, season 4 was widely viewed as the show’s best and scariest run, its final week hit No. 1 on Whip Media’s U.S. streaming originals chart, fans were pushing for more, the cast backed it, and Stephen King was even among the people praising it. Netflix was later ruled out, though, and Paramount+ still hasn’t shown any sign of changing its mind.
