Ubisoft is in the midst of developing a new title in the iconic Far Cry saga, although it has not been officially announced yet. During the New Global Sport Conference, the company’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, emphasized that the goal is to “more prominently drive the multiplayer aspects” within the franchise, aiming to enhance the game’s duration and enjoyment.
You can’t do it alone, but you can with friends
This shift in focus aims to transform Far Cry into an experience that supports long-term content and experiences, similar to a games-as-a-service model. Although the story mode is expected to remain, the inclusion of a strong online component is at the heart of Ubisoft’s strategy, which seeks to offer a more robust ecosystem, similar to what some previous titles, such as Far Cry 3, have already explored.
It has been confirmed that, in addition to Far Cry 7, an independent multiplayer game is being developed, described as an extraction shooter set in Alaska. This project seems to align with players’ interest in new dynamics and multiplayer experiences that could enhance the replayability of the saga. The community has shown a clear desire to see significant changes after Far Cry 6, which, although well received, left many wanting a more marked evolution.
To ensure this transformation, Ubisoft has moved the development of the franchise to its studio in Montreal, in addition to making significant changes in leadership. Sandra Warren has been promoted to executive producer, while Drew Holmes, known for his work on Far Cry 5, takes on the role of brand director. Both leadership roles will be crucial to renewing the Far Cry experience, focusing on progression and cooperative and multiplayer game modes.
The players are now waiting for an official announcement from Ubisoft regarding these new directions and projects that are being developed in the studio.
