Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released for Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2. This highly anticipated release will come in a format that will disappoint physical media collectors, as it will be offered through a game card for the new Nintendo system.
Everything… except an expansion
The Switch 2 version will include all previously released content of the game, although the Claws of Awaji expansion, which is expected to arrive on the console early next year, will be excluded. This strategy, already seen with other titles like Star Wars Outlaws, has been justified by Ubisoft developers due to concerns related to hardware performance.
Additionally, the version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Switch 2 will feature touchscreen support, which promises to make navigation through menus, maps, and hiding more intuitive. Cross-progression will also be implemented through a Ubisoft Connect account, allowing players to continue their game from other platforms such as PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC.
The director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has expressed his opinion on the controversial game card, considering it an impressive idea and suggesting that Nintendo should work harder on its popularization. As the video game industry evolves, the implementation of new formats and approaches will continue to be a topic of conversation and debate among enthusiasts and collectors.
