Fresh, still-unverified reports say Grand Theft Auto 6 may make stealing cars a lot more involved, with more strategy, more tools, and actual risk built into something Rockstar players have usually handled with a quick button press.
Going by those reports, players could have a choice as Jason: smash a window and get in fast, or use a slim jim and stay quiet. The first option would be louder and draw attention. The second would take longer and ask for more exact inputs, but cut down the odds of getting spotted. The same reports claim a car’s age, price, and type could affect its security, meaning an old sedan might come apart with basic tools while a high-end car feels more like a small heist.
The reports also mention Waink, described as some kind of scanner or phone app that lets Jason and Lucia check a parked car’s value, security setup, and GPS tracker before they touch it. From there, things apparently get trickier: some vehicles may require cloned electronic keys, some could ping the police if you don’t keep moving, and players are supposed to unlock better bypass tools later on.
Those same reports say carjacking should still be the faster route, maybe tied to a short quick-time event, while stolen cars could finally be worth something through a fence system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2. If you’d like Grand Theft Auto 6 to make every theft feel like an actual choice, this is one rumor to watch. The game is still unreleased, though, so real confirmation will have to come from Rockstar Games’ official channels.
