We are all eagerly awaiting GTA VI, but it seems that will have to wait because first we will have news about Red Dead Redemption. Not because we are getting a new installment soon, but because we might be getting an old one. It could be a remake or a remaster. This is what makes us think that the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea published a new age rating for Red Dead Redemption on June 15.
With classification number CC-NV-230615-001, this confirms that it is a console game, as console games have the code “NV” while PC games have the code “NP.” It’s important to remember that Red Dead Redemption was originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18, 2010. Versions of the original game, Undead Nightmare Collection, and the Game of the Year (GOTY) Edition already exist and have been previously rated in Korea. Therefore, it’s unlikely that this is a version that has already been released in the West but not in Korea.
What does this imply? It likely means that we are looking at a remaster or a remake of the original Red Dead Redemption. It was a cult game that was well-received but overshadowed by its sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, which was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018, and for PC on November 5, 2019. The original Red Dead Redemption never made it to PC, which was one of the reasons why its popularity never exploded in the same way as its sequel.
Whether it’s a remake or a remaster, this is great news as it will allow us to relive the unfortunate tale of John Marston in the Mexican-American frontier. And since it already has an age rating, we probably won’t have to wait long to find out when we’ll return to that grimy little town called Armadillo.
