Starting today, all Hyundai and Genesis electric vehicle (EV) drivers can access over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America, marking a significant expansion of charging options for these motorists.
This access includes popular models such as the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Kona Electric, and even the original IONIQ Electric hatchback, as well as the Genesis GV60, Electrified GV70, and Electrified G80.
This initiative coincides with Hyundai’s historic $21 billion investment in the U.S., underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing its EV infrastructure.
The next generation of Hyundai EVs will feature a built-in NACS port for seamless charging at Tesla Superchargers
According to Olabisi Boyle, Hyundai Motor North America’s senior vice president, this access nearly doubles the current availability of fast-charging stations for Hyundai drivers, reinforcing the automaker’s ambition to be a leader in the EV market.
To facilitate this new capability, owners of eligible models will soon receive free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters, allowing them to use Tesla’s fast-charging network.
Beginning April 7, 2024, emails with instructions on how to obtain these adapters will be sent out. Owners must have a MyHyundai account and complete the process within 60 days of receiving the email to secure their adapter.
Interestingly, the next generation of Hyundai EVs, starting in 2025, will feature a built-in NACS port for seamless charging at Tesla Superchargers. This includes an upgraded version of the IONIQ 5 and the highly anticipated IONIQ 9, which marks Hyundai’s first foray into three-row electric SUVs.
For those considering a new Hyundai EV, the company is currently offering a promotion where customers who purchase or lease a 2024 or 2025 IONIQ 5 or IONIQ 6 will receive a free ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 charger, providing a comprehensive charging solution for new EV owners.
