Icefall, a 96-minute survival-action thriller starring Joel Kinnaman, arrived on Prime Video in the U.S. on August 19, 2026. After a quiet VOD release back in November 2025, it quickly surged to Prime Video’s number-one movie spot.
That November 2025 rollout had barely made a ripple. Icefall mostly passed unnoticed, picked up only a small batch of reviews, and left little trace on Rotten Tomatoes.
Streaming changed the movie’s path. It has a recognizable lead, and the setup is easy to grab onto: a poacher and a young Indigenous game warden have to recover millions from a plane wreck in a frozen lake before the brutal conditions, and everyone else circling it, get there first.
The film was directed by Oscar winner Stefan Ruzowitzky, and the cast includes Cara Jade Myers, Danny Huston, and the late Graham Greene in one of his final film roles. Reviews leaned mixed to negative, and some of the roughest criticism went straight at the visual effects.
Still, if you’re in the mood for a brisk, star-driven thriller that doesn’t ask much from you, Icefall’s comeback probably makes it worth a look, even though there’s no sequel or spin-off on the horizon.
