“Insidious: Out of the Further” pulled in $3 million from Thursday previews at the domestic box office, and early tracking has it headed for an opening weekend somewhere between $23 million and $27 million.
If that holds, it would mark the softest “Insidious” debut since 2013, though not the franchise’s lowest outright, since the 2011 original opened to $13.27 million. It would also come in behind both “The Red Door” at $33 million and “The Last Key” at $29.58 million.
For anyone who pays attention to box office trends, “Insidious: Out of the Further” is one to watch. The muted start suggests demand may be on the weaker side, but with a budget of $18 million, there’s still a clear path to profitability. And this series has a long track record of making money: the five previous films brought in more than $740 million combined, and every one of them cleared $100 million worldwide.
Overseas, current projections put “Insidious: Out of the Further” in the $49 million to $53 million range worldwide, which would move the franchise closer to the $800 million mark. That total is getting a boost from a record horror opening day in the Philippines, along with an expected £1.8 million to £2.3 million from the U.K. and Ireland, even without China or Japan in the mix.
“Insidious: Out of the Further” is now playing in theaters. Critics have it at 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the best score the series has gotten, while audiences handed it a C+ CinemaScore, tying “The Red Door” for the lowest grade in the franchise. That split could point to some franchise fatigue, especially in a strong 2026 for original horror, even if this still looks like steady business.
