If you have been paying attention to the information we have collected these months about the future iPhone 15, you will have seen that it will include, according to rumors: haptic buttons, several design changes compared to previous models, a USB-C port, a new screen with thinner bezels and even a new camera. A series of changes that many iPhone lovers and mobile lovers in general, who are eager to test the next Apple device, are passionate about.
But not everyone shares that enthusiasm. Journalist Prakhar Khanna collects in a recent Digital Trends article all the aspects about iPhones today that make him think that Apple phones are “the most boring phone you can buy in 2023”, highlighting the alleged lack of innovation by the apple brand. Want to know why? We sum it up for you.
Why are iPhones “boring”?
First of all, Khanna mentions that Apple is making a mistake by not entering the world of foldable phones (even though there is already a patent for it). While the competition, such as Samsung, Xiaomi or other more unknown brands have already launched or will launch foldable models, being the current trend in the world of telephony, Khanna believes that the brand will not launch any foldable model in the coming years. In addition, he mentions that, if it wants to continue launching “slab” mobiles, it must change its design as soon as possible.
Second, Khanna mentions that iPhone cameras, once the best on the market, are already lagging behind competing cameras, such as the Vivo X90 Pro, Galaxy S23 Ultra or Xiaomi 13 Pro, and that iPhones, currently, do not excel in anything related to their cameras. “Any phone made in China or Galaxy focuses faster in portrait mode than the iPhone,” he comments.

Thirdly, he criticizes the absence of fast charging in recent iPhone models, and how their batteries do not last as long as those of competing phones. And the fact is that fast charging of current cell phones is already a standard, with phones that offer full charges (from 0% battery to 100%) that last only 10 minutes. Faced with criticism of this absence, Apple has always defended itself by putting forward the argument of “security reasons”, something that Khanna finds “unconvincing” justification today.
Finally, Khanna criticizes other minor, yet important, aspects of the iPhone user experience, such as the inability to use the multi-window feature in iOS, that his iPhone feels less responsive than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, that it is less comfortable to hold than the OnePlus 11, and that the main camera sensor is worse than that of the Xiaomi 13 Pro.

Ultimately, Khanna says that “there are no standout features in an iPhone” and that overall, despite what many Apple fans continue to claim, it is currently a “mediocre” and “boring” phone. “I hope we get exciting new features with the iPhone 15 this year, but if the rumors are any indication, we’re in for a disappointment.”
