A Tesla Cybertruck owner in Oregon has reported a baffling experience after the company wiped the odometer of his vehicle, which had logged over 26,000 miles.
The Cybertruck was in for service to install a new lightbar, address persistent panel gaps, and troubleshoot an ongoing ABS alert. However, upon picking up the vehicle, the owner discovered that the odometer had been reset to a mere one mile, prompting him to question if he was now classified as “True Mileage Unknown”.
He shared his concerns in a thread on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, where he sought advice on whether Tesla could restore the original mileage or if he was left with a faulty reading.
Cybertruck quality control in question as owner reports multiple issues
This incident comes amid a backdrop of legal scrutiny for Tesla, as the company currently faces a lawsuit alleging that it has manipulated odometers to misrepresent the mileage of its vehicles. Interestingly, the lawsuit focuses on allegations of artificially increasing mileage rather than reducing it, as seen in this case.
Unfortunately, the odometer issue wasn’t the only problem left unresolved after the service visit. The owner also reported dissatisfaction with the installation of the lightbar, noting a half-inch gap on the passenger side while it fit flush on the driver’s side.
He remarked that it was “basically smiling sideways at everyone.” Additionally, the tailgate was not secured correctly, leading to both scratches and loose components when the truck was returned.
Ultimately, the Cybertruck returned to its owner with more issues than it had when it went in for service, leaving the user frustrated and perplexed. Such experiences raise questions about Tesla’s quality control and technical competencies, particularly as the company continues to scale production of its highly anticipated Cybertruck.
