In a significant shift for DC’s cinematic landscape, James Gunn is set to unveil a new version of Superman, marking a complete departure from the narrative established by Zack Snyder since “Man of Steel” in 2013.
This new iteration features David Corenswet stepping into the role of Clark Kent, replacing Henry Cavill, as Gunn looks to redefine the character for a new generation.
The film represents more than a simple reboot; it serves as a bold statement of intent from Warner Bros. and Gunn, who has taken control of the creative direction of the DC universe following his controversial dismissal from Disney in 2018.

Gunn’s initial foray into the DC franchise began with “The Suicide Squad” in 2021, but his vision for Superman dates back even further. Reports suggest that Warner Bros. expressed interest in Gunn directing a Superman film well before he helmed “The Suicide Squad”, with a preference for a new actor to portray the iconic superhero as early as this discussion.
The narrative change comes amidst rumors regarding Cavill’s exit after his brief cameo in “Justice League” (2017), with speculation that he was let go following his refusal to appear in “Shazam!” (2019).
However, Cavill’s short-lived return in “Black Adam” (2022) reignited hopes among fans, only for Gunn to clarify that the future of Superman lay elsewhere.
Joining Corenswet in this fresh take are Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The release of this new Superman film is set for July 11 in Spain, and it is anticipated to be a defining moment in the rebirth of the DC universe, establishing a new tone that diverges sharply from its predecessors.
