Jeffrey Katzenberg recently posted a 2,394-word essay on X arguing that Hollywood should stop fighting AI and start learning how to live with it. He calls resistance a losing strategy, compares today’s backlash to the old fears around recorded music and synchronized sound, and says AI can handle reasoning and pattern recognition while human creativity remains in charge.
The concerns on the other side aren’t hard to see. Critics say the disruption could hit extras, editors, post-production crews, audio specialists, and writers, especially with forecasts pointing to fully machine-generated films, TV shows, and ads by 2026. In the essay, Katzenberg argues that these tools could cut the time and cost of high-quality animation by as much as 90% within three years, which he says would give studios room to make more films and take bigger risks. If you’ve been following Hollywood’s fight over AI, it’s a useful read.
Katzenberg has real clout, coming off Disney and DreamWorks successes like Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda. But Quibi‘s 2020 collapse, after $1.75 billion in funding according to public reporting, still gives people reason to question his instincts here. Add WndrCo’s backing of Reactor and reported plans for another venture, and there’s also reason to look closely at where his incentives might be.
Market estimates valued the AI media and entertainment business at $10.87 billion in 2021. Katzenberg’s point, stripped down, is that the technology is already here. The real battle is over who benefits from it, and who gets left behind. Read the essay on X.

His approach is practical — what a program actually does, what it asks in return and who it is for — which is why he distrusts feature lists and prefers to test. He is part of the team that decides how software gets covered on the site, and works daily with AI tools applied to editorial production.",
