Kia’s new electric models, the EV3 and EV5, are making significant strides in sales across key markets, positioning the automaker as a notable player in the electric vehicle sector.
In April, Kia reported nearly 275,000 global vehicle sales, a boost driven largely by the success of these models. The EV3 has emerged as the top-selling electric SUV in both Korea and Europe, where it was launched in November at a starting price of €35,990 (approximately $40,700).
With incentives, buyers can acquire the EV3 in South Korea for under $30,000, making it an attractive option in the competitive EV market.
Kia’s EV3 and EV5 Surge in Sales, Strengthening Their Electric Vehicle Presence
In Australia, the EV5 has quickly climbed the ranks, capturing the title of the fourth best-selling electric SUV, with 1,509 units sold. It trails only Tesla’s Model Y, Model 3, and the MG MG4.
The success of the EV5 has seen it outperform models from BYD, which is notable amidst a fiercely competitive landscape. Despite its successes, Kia faces challenges, particularly in the U.S. market, where sales of the EV6 fell by 68% and the EV9 by 85% last month, indicating potential hurdles moving forward.
Kia is not resting on its laurels. Plans are already in the pipeline to introduce the EV4, the company’s first electric sedan, in Europe and globally by 2026, further diversifying its EV portfolio.
The EV3 is also set for a U.S. launch at the end of this year or early 2026, with a projected starting price of around $35,000. As more low-cost electric vehicles hit the market, Kia is banking on new models like the EV3 and EV4 to enhance its global electrification strategy and solidify its market presence.
