The Mazda 6e has officially begun production in China, marking the company’s first electric vehicle designed for global markets.
This significant development means that consumers in Europe and Southeast Asia can expect the stylish electric sedan to hit their markets later this year.
Currently available in China since October, the Mazda 6e has a starting price of 139,800 yuan, roughly $20,000. However, due to export tariffs, consumers in Europe should anticipate a higher price point upon its arrival, although specific figures have yet to be released.
Mazda 6e Offers Impressive Range With Two Battery Options For European Market
Additionally, the 6e will offer two battery options in Europe—a 68.8 kWh version with a WLTP range of 479 km (approximately 300 miles) and a larger 80 kWh variant boasting a range of 552 km (about 343 miles).
Built at Changan Mazda’s Nanjing plant, the 6e combines Changan’s advanced EV technology with Mazda’s distinctive design philosophy. The vehicle is categorized as both a “Chinese car and a global car,” reflecting its shared lineage and diverse engineering expertise. With dimensions comparable to the Tesla Model 3, the Mazda 6e measures 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,491 mm in height.
As part of Mazda’s ambitious electrification strategy, the company plans to launch a new SUV next year and aims to expand its offerings with a third and fourth new energy vehicle in the near future.
This rollout is seen as a pivotal step in establishing Changan Mazda’s presence as a new energy vehicle export center. As excitement builds for the Mazda 6e’s arrival in international markets, industry observers note that it could signify a transformative era for Mazda and its electric vehicle aspirations.
