Microsoft has confirmed that we will soon see ChatGPT integrated into its Azure OpenAI service, which has been available to everyone since last Tuesday. The news was made public through a post published by Eric Boys, corporate vice president of the AI Platform.
In the words of Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, “ChatGPT llegará pronto al servicio Azure OpenAI […] para ayudar a los clientes a aplicar los modelos de IA más avanzados del mundo a sus propias necesidades empresariales”.
In the story posted by Eric Boy, he highlighted the general availability of the Azure OpenAI Service, which also offers access to other AI models such as GPT-3.5, Codex and DALL-E 2. His post is published on the official Microsoft blog, in case you want to keep an eye on it.
The addition of ChatGPT to Azure is the result of the partnership that Microsoft currently has with OpenAI. In previous notes, we reported on how those in Redmond had invested a whopping 1.billion dollars in the company. Now, the tech giant wants to up its ante.
According to a recent report, Microsoft would be in talks to make a new investment of 10.000 million dollars. If it finally came true, the market value of OpenAI would reach 29.000 million dollars. However, these astronomical figures contrast with the recent news of the downsizing that will take place soon at Microsoft. Specifically, the layoffs will affect 10.000 workers or what is the same, 5% of the workforce worldwide.
However, it seems that Microsoft’s priority is elsewhere. In the end, the inclusion of ChatGPT in Azure OpenAI would mean a lot of growth for the service. ChatGPT is being a success among the public and managed to gather one million users in less than a week after its launch on November 30, 2022.
Apart from this, Microsoft is already benefiting from the various tools that OpenAI possesses. As of today, the company is using the OpenAI Codex for GitHub Copilot, for example. In addition, ChatGPT will not only be in Azure: it will also be integrated with the Bing search engine and with Office applications (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
