Microsoft begins to put barriers against the customization of default applications in Windows
Without prior notice, Microsoft has started to limit the customization of default applications in Windows systems. Through a new driver, this new tool, which has silently arrived, blocks the use of services that have been modified and are part of the default services of Windows systems.
The possibility of making these types of modifications has been present in systems since Windows 8. However, with this new change, it seems that the era of “hacked” or modified applications could come to an end, as many users have reported the modification in the service, although there is no official communication yet.
Just as insider Kolbicz confirmed months ago, this problem began to be seen in the latest system updates of Windows 10, being something that, despite the expiration of this system, Microsoft has deliberately disabled for reasons they have not disclosed.
In fact, to make matters worse, the UCPD controller, which is the one that performs the blocking, has, as can be seen, the seal and copyright of Microsoft, which makes this move look completely premeditated by the company, despite the harm to users who used this type of customizations.
The DMA as a possible motive
There are indications that could mark the adaptation to the European DMA as the main reason why Microsoft has decided to put more limits on the freedom it provides to users with the performance of its applications. As there has been no communication from the US company, the reasons are unknown precisely, but there are several voices that point to this adaptation to the DMA. In fact, Microsoft can boast of not being investigated by the European Commission, unlike other brands such as Alphabet, Amazon or Meta.
Maintaining service quality standards and meeting the requirements of the European Union, despite the potential for more annoying consequences like in this particular case, also ensures that users in that territory have greater protection for their interests and higher security compared to users in other territories. Therefore, these types of regulations are beneficial for the average Internet user in Europe.
