Mojang rolled out a Minecraft update today in the latest Java Snapshot and Bedrock Preview, and it brings two new items with it: the Cushion and the Straw Bed.
The Cushion is the big one. Seventeen years in, vanilla Minecraft finally has official seating after all those years of minecart tricks, boats, commands, and custom-server workarounds. You craft it from three wool slabs of the same color, it comes in all 16 wool colors, and it has no collision box. If you like building chairs, benches, couches, or more polished interiors, it makes the whole setup look a lot cleaner without needing mods.
The Straw Bed is more of a practical item. It’s made from three hay bales, gives you four beds per recipe, and lets you skip the night without resetting your spawn point, which is great for travel, early survival, and temporary camps. It only works once, though, and breaks after a single sleep.
If you’re the kind of player who spends hours building houses, taverns, castles, or role-play spaces, or you’re always roaming from place to place, this update is well worth grabbing. It also feels like another step in Mojang’s move toward smaller, more frequent game-drop previews. Sitting has been high on the community’s wish list for a long time, and people have reacted especially well to this one.
