More than 30,000 users sign to cancel Assassin’s Creed Shadows

La queja proviene desde parte de la propia comunidad japonesa.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues to be on players’ lips. After the presentation about a month ago of its first gameplay, many users have reacted negatively to the representation of the samurais, to the point that this has led to a petition for signatures on Change.org.

Assassin's Creed: Shadows CHECK

Started by the user Toru Shimizu and directed toward the Japanese community, the petition has already garnered more than 30,000 signatures, a number that keeps going up with every hour that passes (during the short time it has taken me to write this article, the number has risen from 29,500 to 30,000).

Although the request was initiated on June 19, it hasn’t begun to get much attention until these last 24 hours, when more than 13,000 people have unsubscribed from the 30,000 that had existed.

The main complaint expressed in the petition is that there’s a “lack of historical accuracy and cultural respect”, which implies a “serious insult to Japanese culture and history“. Additionally, this Japanese user also points out that there is some “Asian racism” in how everything is portrayed in the adventure starring Yasuke and Naoe.

In view of this, “Ubisoft is asked to immediately cancel the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and show more respect for Japanese history and culture”.

Ubisoft has not released any information about this incident, and the release is still scheduled for November 15, 2024, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC. In fact, the game director has already made his position very clear: users can get as angry as they want, but nothing will change.
