Nissan’s new electric vehicle, the N7, has generated significant excitement since its launch on April 28, amassing over 17,215 orders within its first month, with more than 10,000 of those coming in just 18 days.
This impressive feat positions the N7 as the fastest joint venture pure electric car to reach such milestones in the competitive Chinese market.
The N7 offers consumers two battery options, a 58 kWh unit with a range of up to 540 km (335 miles) and a 73 kWh variant that boasts a commendable 635 km (395 miles).
Nissan’s N7 Electric Vehicle Launches with Over 17,000 Orders in Just One Month
Priced starting at RMB 119,900 (approximately $17,000), it has attracted a younger demographic, with 70% of buyers being new to the Nissan brand, primarily young families under 35.
Significantly, the N7 comes equipped with advanced features, including Momenta’s autonomous driving technology, a digital 15.6-inch infotainment screen that transforms into an in-home theater, and a built-in refrigerator.
Dongfeng Nissan’s managing director, Isao Sekiguchi, referred to the N7’s launch as “a new starting point” for Nissan as it attempts to rebound in a market increasingly crowded with lower-cost domestic electric vehicles.
While Nissan has confirmed plans to export the N7 to global markets, details on pricing and specific regions remain unannounced. The company is under pressure due to declining sales—down 12% last year—and an intense price war led by competitors like BYD. In a bid to streamline operations, Nissan is also planning to cut 20,000 jobs and close several plants.
Despite these challenges, the N7 could signal a turnaround for the struggling automaker. It is the first of nine new electric vehicles Nissan intends to introduce by mid-2027. With Mazda recently reporting over 20,000 orders for its new SUV in China, the pressure is mounting for Nissan to deliver a successful rollout with the N7.
