Obsession, the low-budget horror hit that turned Curry Barker into one of 2026’s most unexpected breakout stories, hits Netflix in the U.S. on November 17. If you missed it the first time around, you’ll get another shot here. The film first premiered at TIFF in 2025, opened in theaters on May 15, 2026, landed on VOD on June 30, and then moved to Peacock on July 17 before arriving for this Netflix run.
Made for around $750,000, Obsession has earned about $522 million worldwide. That made it the top-grossing horror movie of 2026. It also pulled off a box office trick you almost never see, climbing in both its second and third weekends, something that hadn’t happened since E.T. Focus Features and Blumhouse were both tied to its release path.
The story centers on a college student, a full-on hopeless romantic, who turns to the mysterious One Wish Willow to make his crush fall in love with him. From there, things get darker fast. What starts as a fantasy turns into a story about obsession, consent, and the mess of modern dating.
Critics have singled out the film’s restraint and the pressure it builds without overplaying anything. It currently sits at 93% with critics and 94% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Inde Navarrette, Michael Johnston, and Cooper Tomlinson do a lot of the heavy lifting, selling both the romantic pull and the unease underneath it.
If Obsession passed you by earlier in the year, Netflix is the next place to catch it. It starts streaming in the U.S. on November 17.
