OD gets new details from Hideo Kojima: it aims to push fear limits

Hideo Kojima has shared a few more details about OD, his Xbox horror project, and the idea behind it is pretty direct: he says it’s meant to push you “beyond the limit of fear.”

There still isn’t much concrete to go on, but this latest update makes the project feel a little less vague. So far, most of what’s been public has been OD’s tone, its cast, and the scale of what Kojima seems to be trying to do. The teaser introduced Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.

Jordan Peele is involved as a creative partner. Xbox has also said the project uses cloud technology in a new way, and Kojima has suggested OD may blur the line between a game, an interactive experience, and a cinematic experiment, rather than landing as a conventional horror release.

If you’ve been waiting for an actual clue about what OD might look like, this update does matter. It points less toward cheap jump scares and more toward slow-burning psychological unease, which lines up with the kind of horror Kojima explored in P.T. It also helps explain why horror fans are so eager to see what Kojima and Jordan Peele do with tension, surreal imagery, and unconventional storytelling, even without any gameplay footage yet.

OD is still in development for Xbox, with no release date, no confirmed final platform lineup, and still no clear answer on how traditional its gameplay will be.
