If you were playing video games before terms like “next gen” became trendy, you surely remember ‘Commandos,’ the game by Pyro that was first released in June 1998 and became a global hit. In total, the series comprised five games that transitioned from strategy to FPS and spanned eight years. In 2006, ‘Commandos: Strike Force’ seemingly marked the end of the saga. Or so we all thought.
A very fierce battle!
‘Commandos: Origins’ will be a prequel not only for those who have been playing the war saga for 25 years but also as an entry point for new players. The only problem is that Pyro won’t be behind it anymore (obviously, since it closed its doors in 2012), and the responsibility has passed to a new studio called Claymore Game Studios.
In this installment, we will witness how Jack O’Hara assembled the elite group that we would later see in the saga’s subsequent (chronological) games, starting the campaign in Africa and traveling across various countries of World War II. There will be a total of ten different levels that can be played, of course, in single-player or cooperative mode. And the best part? They’re going back to the classic top-down strategic gameplay, just as it should have always been.
This prequel will be released in 2024 for PS5 and Xbox Series, not neglecting the place where the saga gained its fame: PC. Oh, and the best part: if you have a Microsoft console, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass from the launch. It will be published by Kalypso Studios, known for series like ‘Tropico’ or ‘Port Royale,’ and promises to take us from the Arctic to Europe, fighting the toughest battle of your life.
