Only Murders in the Building, the series starring the most curious triad in Hollywood (Steve Martin, Selena Gómez and Martin Short), has just added a new star to its formula: Meryl Streep. The actress with the most nominations in the history of the Oscars has surprisingly joined the Hulu fiction (which in Spain can be seen on Disney +).
The news has come from Selena Gomez, the biggest promoter of the series in younger audiences. Gómez has made an Instagram publication where he is presenting the cast of Season 3 of the series, among which is also Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, who is about to release Quantumania). Finally, Meryl Streep appears in the video, implying that she is part of the series. Steve Martin has also uploaded a photo of all together to his profile.
Only Murders in the Building received 17 Emmy Award nominations after its first season, winning three of them. It is the most popular original comedy on Hulu, and has achieved success with both critics and audiences around the world.
Streep’s role will be her first on television since she was the antagonist of Season 2 of Big Littles Lies, which can be seen on HBO Max. But what role will he play in this second season?
For now and knowing the series, I imagine two options. The first one is that it will be a guest star, like Tina Fey or Amy Schumer. This seems quite likely given the trajectory of the series, but it would be a bit discouraging because we all expect her to have a more significant role.
The other option is much more interesting, and that is that Meryl Streep becomes the antagonist of the new season. Although the villains usually appear in a final plot twist, having the best actress in Hollywood as the rival to face would undoubtedly be a leap in quality in a series that already seems fantastic in itself.
