This is how we can organize the messages in our Mac Mailboxes by date, attachments, sender, read and more.

Sorting the different mailboxes according to our needs may seem basic, but it is undoubtedly an important step.

The way we organize emails in the Mail app can make the difference between efficiency in managing them and having them pile up in the app. Fortunately, we can organize the emails in all our mailboxes following different guidelines and make it easier for us to read and consult them. Let’s see how to do it.

Sort by date, flag, sender, message size, subject and more

As with the folders on our Mac, being able to sort the messages in the Mail app efficiently is of vital importance in many circumstances. On our Mac, the Mail app offers several options, for example by date, according to the assigned indicator, alphabetically by sender, from the largest to the smallest message size, etc. The steps to follow are very simple:

  1. Open the Mail app on your Mac.
  2. Go to the folder or mailbox you want to reorder.
  3. In the View menu, we move the mouse over Sort by and choose from the options we find.
  4. Access the menu again and decide whether we want to apply the ascending or descending order.

It’s as easy as that. A very simple option that allows us to have our emails sorted according to different needs and workflows. The most interesting thing about this option is that we can sort each folder in a different way and the system will remember it. So, for example, the archived folder can show the most recent emails first while the inbox folder can highlight the unread ones at the top.

Organizing mail, especially after a certain daily amount (something that Do Not Disturb mode can help us with), is something quite personal depending on the system we want to apply, but it has an important impact on how we can manage it efficiently and comfortably. Along with doing some cleaning on our iPhone, sorting the different mailboxes according to our needs may seem basic, but it is undoubtedly an important step.
