Disney Plus continues to surprise with new and better series. Last week it was The Bear‘s turn, now it’s the highly anticipated Ahsoka, and just now they’ve announced an upcoming premiere that many of us are eagerly awaiting, and undoubtedly, it could be one of the platform’s best. We’re talking about Percy Jackson & The Olympians, the new adaptation of Rick Riordan’s books.
On the occasion of Percy Jackson’s birthday, which is today if we follow the events of the books, Disney has released a teaser for the series. And, certainly, it looks spectacular. Additionally, alongside the teaser, they have announced the premiere date of this new series.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians Release Date
On December 20, 2023, we will be able to watch the first two episodes of Percy Jackson, making it the Christmas debut on the platform. Starting from the following week (December 27), a new episode will be released weekly. These first two episodes have been written by Riordan himself and Jon Steinberg, the showrunner. Additionally, they are directed by James Bobin.
The series’ story follows how in a world where the Olympian gods exist, Percy Jackson discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and is embarked on a quest to retrieve Zeus’s lightning bolt, which has been stolen. His goal is to prevent a war between the gods, and this is just the first of the many adventures the protagonist experiences.

Beyond its epic and all-ages story, part of Percy Jackson’s secret lies in its representation. The series features characters with ADHD, from the LGBTQ+ community, feminist messages, a wide range of ethnicities represented, and more. That’s why it’s a very modern series of novels adapted to our times, and it makes perfect sense for the series to be brought to life.
