The Miracle has Answered Our Prayers ((and this time it hasn’t cursed us, which is something we are grateful for). Blasphemous 2, the long awaited sequel to one of the best videogames made in Spain, showed yesterday for the first time its gameplay in a first trailer that has left us all speechless.
A trailer that we were looking forward to since the game was announced surprisingly and fleetingly at Gamescom 2021, right at the end of the trailer in which the developer studio, The Game Kitchen, announced what would be the last DLC for Blasphemous: Wounds of Eventide .
But it is already among us. In a Nintendo Indie World where we could see other indie games to be released in the coming months, such as Teslagrad 2, Animal Well or Rift of the NecroDancer, Blasphemous 2 grabbed all the attention of the Spanish public with a trailer where we could see again our beloved Penitent, who returns to his penitence for reasons we still don’t know.
The first thing we notice in this spectacular trailer is how much it has improved its artistic section. With a larger team than in its first installment and much more experience behind them, The Game Kitchen has created from scratch everything that our eyes see (and will see), with a much more careful and detailed pixel art, and with a much more absorbing atmosphere if possible.

But when we say that Blasphemous 2 has been made from scratch, we don’t just mean its artwork. No, no: the whole game is completely new. And it is something that we can appreciate in this brief, yet intense one-minute trailer, where every element looks completely different from the first installment, with much more fluid movements, better lighting (great contrast between lights and shadows) and a spectacular soundtrack composed by Carlos Viola.

In the trailer, we can see how the Penitent makes use of up to three different weapons, something that drastically changes the gameplay experience compared to the first part. With each of these weapons, including a censer (yes, you read that right), we will be able to perform faster and weaker attacks, or slower and stronger ones. Each of these weapons will be useful depending on the situation or the enemy we face, although, if you dedicate enough time, you can surely spend the entire game using the one you like the most.

Blasphemous 2 will also include, as it could not be otherwise, new locations, objects, characters and enemies that will be inspired by the Black Legend of Seville (The Game Kitchen is a Sevillian studio), as well as in the Andalusian and Spanish culture. Among other references, in the trailer we can see a character clearly inspired by the figure of the itinerant “afilaor”, a trade already in the process of extinction, but that has had a great presence in Andalusia.
Blasphemous 2 will be released at the end of this summer (the official summer, not the Sevillian summer), although the specific release date is unknown at the moment. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but it is unknown if it will also come to other platforms, such as Gog, or even if there will be ports for previous generation consoles: PS4 and Xbox One. May the wait be short, penitents.
