There were rumors, but nothing was confirmed. Yesterday, to the surprise of many, Apple announced a new event for this upcoming October 30th. Titled “Scary Fast” —a wordplay due to the event’s proximity to Halloween— what can we expect to see presented?
New Macs with M3 chips, primarily
The presence of the iconic “Happy Mac” Finder face removes all doubt: this is a Mac-focused event. Despite Ming-Chi Kuo’s previous predictions that we wouldn’t see new Macs this year, it is now expected that Apple will have some surprises in this area. According to Kuo himself, the MacBook Pro with M3 chip will be the star of the event, although he anticipates a limitation in units due to the supply chain situation that could extend until 2024.
Mark Gurman agrees with Kuo and furthermore, specifies that Apple could introduce the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, offering CPU options with up to 16 cores and GPU options with up to 40 cores. These are very intriguing computers that would place Apple back on its regular release schedule, following the fluctuations around the M2 generation.
Gurman also reminds us that the upcoming iMac — expected to be revealed this coming Monday — will feature the M3 chip, have a slight internal redesign, and retain the current color options. There is still anticipation for its larger counterpart, something that, according to rumors, might happen next year.
Regarding the MacBook Air line, Gurman doesn’t expect them to be updated with the new M3 chip at this event. The same applies to the new versions of Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro, for which we will have to wait a bit longer.
This time, we won’t have to wait long to clear our doubts because next Monday at 5:00 PM (PT) — 1:00 AM on the 31st in Spain’s time zone — Apple will unveil all the new developments. An event focused on the power of the new Macs, which surely brings more than one surprise.
