Shrek 5 just cleared a big step, with principal voice recording now finished for the main cast ahead of the animated sequel’s June 30, 2027 theatrical release.
So yes, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are officially back as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. It also points to Shrek 5 moving further into post-production, where animation, editing, and the final round of polish start to take over.
If you’ve been waiting for Shrek to come back, this is the update to keep an eye on. Reports say Shrek 5 heads to “Further, Further Away,” puts more attention on Shrek and Fiona’s now-teenage children, and brings in Zendaya as Felicia, with Skyler Gisondo and Marcello Hernández voicing Farkle and Fergus.
There’s some confidence behind the camera too, since franchise veteran Walt Dohrn is directing. DreamWorks is also returning to a series that has brought in about $4 billion worldwide, including the Puss in Boots spin-offs.
The shift from 2026 to June 30, 2027 seems tied to release strategy and giving the film more time, and with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish landing as well as it did, plus a reported Donkey spin-off, DreamWorks appears to be treating this as a broader franchise comeback.
Shrek 5 is currently set for theaters on June 30, 2027.
