Siri AI has completely changed what we can ask of our iPhone, and its next big leap seems to be in the home. According to MacRumors, HomePod Software 27 includes “Linwood,” the system behind Siri AI, along with a new system for the status lights. All signs point to Siri AI also coming to the HomePod, making the speaker much smarter.
Siri AI jumps from the iPhone to the whole house
The implementation suggests new hardware for several reasons. The first and most obvious is that even though the system is already available in the software running on current HomePods, Siri AI is absent. The second, also very obvious, is that the new lights use white, blue, and orange, the same tones as the new Siri, which aren’t available on current HomePods.
Lastly, we should keep in mind that rumors point to a HomePod mini with an S9 processor or later, even the S11 from the Apple Watch Series 12. Given Siri AI’s current requirements, a more powerful chip makes perfect sense.
Alongside the main chip, Apple could also add its N1 chip, a new generation of Ultra Wideband, and new colors. Changes that fit with the major home refresh Apple is planning, where the HomePod mini would become much more important in the ecosystem.
Given how much Siri AI improves Apple’s assistant, it makes perfect sense that Apple wants us to be able to talk to the new Siri from any room and with the same context and capabilities we already have on our other devices. If everything lines up, this fall Siri AI will go from answering us through our screens to accompanying us throughout the house.
