Skype for Mac adds auto updates

Microsoft has updated Skype 5.6 for Mac with auto-updates and some minor improvements to the video calling interface.

This means that finally, users won’t have to download a new DMG file every time a new Skype update is released – it will simply update itself automatically. The video conferencing interface has been tweaked slightly so that users can switch between dynamic and non-dynamic mode.

In dynamic mode, the current speaker is moved to the top of the screen whereas in non-dynamic mode, the speakers are static. Skype also now supports the new full screen mode implemented in OS X 10.7 Lion.

However, the overall Skype interface remains the same which won’t be welcomed by the many Mac users who dislike the new UI introduced by  Skype 2.8.
