Snap opens preorders for Specs: AR glasses cost $2,195

Snap has opened preorders for its new Specs AR glasses at $2,195, with shipments planned for fall 2026 in the US, UK, and France. If you want to lock in a pair, Snap is asking for a refundable $200 deposit.

The main sell is pretty straightforward: these are fully standalone AR glasses.

Snap says Specs run on two Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. The company is also promising a 51-degree field of view, support for 16 million colors, up to four hours of use on a charge, and another 20 hours from the case. They’ll come in two sizes, either 47 mm at 132 g or 52 mm at 136 g.

Specs also come with an assistant powered by OpenAI and Google. Snap says it can answer contextual questions, handle translation, and layer overlays onto what you’re seeing.

Then there’s EyeConnect, which is one of the stranger and more interesting ideas here. Snap says it puts two Specs users into a shared AR experience when they make eye contact.

If you build AR apps, or you just like getting early access to new hardware, Specs start to make a lot more sense.

Still, the price is high, and Snap hasn’t shared some basic hardware details yet. We still don’t know the resolution, brightness, refresh rate, RAM, storage, or camera specs. Privacy is also going to be a sticking point for some people, even with an LED indicator and on-device protections.

Taken together, this feels aimed at developers and early adopters, not at people shopping for a mainstream alternative to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses or Apple’s Vision Pro.

You can preorder Specs directly from Snap now, and Snap says there are already hundreds of Specs Lenses available in Lens Studio. After Snap’s 1,000 layoffs, 300 more eliminated roles, a $500 million cost-cutting plan, and the company’s shift to Specs Inc., it’s pretty easy to see why this launch matters.
