Sora, the audiovisual AI from OpenAI, has just made its first music video

It’s hard to say if Sora will become widespread. It’s true we’re in the early stages, but, ready or not, that hasn’t stopped OpenAI…

Sora is something that scares us and attracts us. That’s how technology that breaks current barriers is, and Sora breaks everything we knew, besides presenting challenges and opportunities in the present and immediate future of the audiovisual sector.

Sora ACCESS

OpenAI has just released a music video for the song Worldweight by August Kamp entirely made with their text-to-video conversion engine, Sora. You can watch the full video on the company’s official YouTube channel or below. Worldweight consists of a series of short clips in 8:3 format with blurry images of various environments.

A cloudy day is seen at the beach, a sanctuary in the middle of a forest, and what appear to be pieces of alien technology. The ambient track combined with the images results in a unique ethereal experience. It is half pleasant and half unsettling.

How did they manage to make a music video with prompts

It is unknown what text messages were used in Sora and Kamp did not share that information. But in the description, it explains what it was inspired by. It states that when creating the theme, they imagined what a video representing Worldweight would be like.

However, she was missing a way to share her thoughts. Thanks to Sora, this is no longer a problem, as the images show what she had always imagined. It’s “like the song has always ‘seemed'” from her perspective.

If you pay attention throughout the footage, you will notice hallucinations. The leaves turn into fish, the bushes appear out of nowhere, and the flowers have cameras instead of petals. But thanks to the ethereal nature of the music, everything fits together. Nothing seems out of place or induces a nightmare. If anything, the video embraces nightmares.

August Kamp is not the only person using Sora to create content. The production company Shy Kids has just released a short film titled “Air Head” on YouTube, also made with the AI engine. It looks like the trailer for a movie about a man with a balloon for a head.

Sora ACCESS

Judging by these contents, it is difficult to know if Sora will become widespread. It is true that we are in the early stages, but, ready or not, that has not stopped OpenAI from presenting its technology to the major Hollywood studios. Apparently, studio executives are excited about the prospect of AI saving time and money in production.
