The second announcement at Xbox Games Showcase 2023 was for a title that has left us wanting to know much more: South of Midnight. With no release date announced, the trailer shows a man with a strange appearance playing the guitar, just as a girl appears through a dimensional portal.
This girl’s name is Hazel, as announced by Xbox after the conference. She is sarcastic and disillusioned with everything around her, having grown up with a complex relationship with her mother. However, this doesn’t stop her from being playful and proactive when it comes to searching for creatures.
As for the man playing the guitar, his name is Shakin’ Bones. He is an Archon inspired by the legend of Robert Johnson, the man who made a deal with the devil at the crossroads. He is an immortal figure who also resembles Charon.
Hazel’s mission is to defeat supernatural creatures, with the “collaboration” of Shakin’ Bones, who have entered this world, a deep and dark version of the United States.
The game will require us to travel through purely rural environments, as the studio has always sought to explore those lesser-known areas to the general public. “The further you get away from the influences of civilization, the more magical the world becomes,” says David Sears, creative director of this development.
Developed by Compulsion Games, it is known that it will be a third-person action-adventure where magic takes center stage. It will be available on day one on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Hopefully, we would have seen some gameplay.
