As of today, there are hundreds of websites and platforms that host content illegally for users to download. However, not many would have thought of using Spotify as another tool in the service of piracy.
But how do they do it exactly? Spotify’s website has a great advantage: its contents are easily indexable by search engines like Google. This has led to the platform being filled with playlists and podcasts with titles full of keywords related to game, book, and movie downloads. Google, by indexing these Spotify pages, positions them among the top results for those searching for those specific terms.

Titles like the classic “free download” lead us to lists that in turn link to all kinds of pirate websites. Spotify strongly condemns these practices and warns users not to click on anything these fraudulent lists may display.
