Spotify updates Mixed Playlists: you can now fine-tune transitions

Spotify has updated Mixed Playlists with more precise transition editing for people who like to mix playlists by hand. You now get direct control points on the Volume, EQ, and Filter curves, which means you can shape the transition between songs much more closely instead of settling for a broad preset.

You can drag those points right on the Volume, EQ, and Filter lines. That gives you control over the type of transition, when it kicks in, and how steep or gradual the curve feels. In real use, that means you can line up a filter sweep or a quick volume dip with the beat, rather than hoping a preset lands in roughly the right place.

Mixed Playlists first showed up in August 2025 as Spotify’s more hands-on option for people who wanted more than automatic crossfading. It used key and BPM data to help smooth songs together, but before this update your choices were basically full presets or preset effects, with much less say over where anything actually happened.

If you’re the kind of person who spends time tightening up a playlist, this one’s a good update to pick up. Small corrections are easier, and the whole sequence can feel more deliberate. There are still some rough spots, though. Placing points can feel fiddly, and some users say points snap back when they try to adjust them.

You can use the tool inside Spotify Mixed Playlists anywhere the feature is live. Spotify says Mixed Playlists has already led to more than 220 million streaming hours since launch. Even so, access still looks patchy in some regions, including for some Premium users. Smart Reorder, which arrived in February 2026, is handy if all you want is BPM and key sorting. If you actually want to do the mixing yourself, this is the more interesting update.
