Star Trek: Outposts Unknown is out today on Steam, and it takes a different approach from most Star Trek games. The focus here is strategy and management, not the usual starship combat or action-first setup.
Developed by Magic Fuel Games and published by Playstack, Star Trek: Outposts Unknown is described on its Steam page as a narrative-driven outpost builder. You create your own captain, then take charge of a growing Federation research outpost through exploration, research, resource management, construction, and the leadership decisions that hold the whole operation together.
The game is set in the 23rd-century X’Lehari System during the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds era. According to its Steam description, it tells an original story with a new crew as you help a fragile alien civilization, investigate a mysterious cosmic force threatening the system, and visit worlds such as Kourou, an ice-and-fire planet.
If you’ve been waiting for a Star Trek game that cares more about diplomacy, science, discovery, and infrastructure than phasers, this one looks like a solid pick. Early preview coverage and impressions from the demo point to a more relaxed city-building angle, which could make it one of the more interesting Star Trek releases in years. You can download Star Trek: Outposts Unknown now on Steam.
