Few companies can boast of having had such a powerful year as Nintendo. With its two major franchises each having major titles, as is the case with Mario and Zelda, Nintendo can rest easy knowing that they don’t need to do anything else for the remainder of the year. But this is Nintendo. They’re not going to do that. That’s why they already have the Super Mario RPG Remake very close, and they have decided to tell us everything we need to know about it.
This may seem redundant for those reading from America, but it’s a very welcome trailer for our European audience. Although Super Mario RPG is a cult classic, it never made it to Europe, making this remake particularly interesting for the old continent.
In that sense, the trailer shows us everything that this beloved classic has to offer for a large part of the community. Detailing the game’s story, it also introduces us to the game’s characters: Mario, Peach, Bowser, and the two characters created exclusively for the story, Mallow and Geno. Additionally, presenting several of the game’s villains, the trailer highlights that this remake will include a new post-game mode that will allow us to face the game’s bosses once again.
In turn, the trailer also showcases the combat system of Super Mario RPG. Although it is basically identical to the original, a turn-based combat system where we deal extra damage or avoid a certain amount of damage by clicking at the right moment, the trailer emphasizes the Triple Moves. These are new special attacks where the three characters in our group execute a super attack, depending on their composition, making battles simpler and more direct.
Furthermore, the trailer shows everything that is expected. The classic scenarios. The minigames. The ability to switch between the original soundtrack and its remade version. All of this in almost five minutes of a trailer for a game that is set to be released next Friday, November 17th.
