The plot is based on the acclaimed series of novels The Murderbot Diaries, written by Martha Wells, winner of the prestigious Hugo and Nebula awards. Murderbot is described as a thriller/comedy that explores the struggle of a security construct who, despite being horrified by human emotions, is drawn to its vulnerable clients. Throughout the series, the protagonist must hide its free will while completing a dangerous mission, all while longing to simply enjoy futuristic soap operas.

The presented trailer shows a light and humorous tone, suggesting that the series will innovatively combine action and comedy. Skarsgård also serves as the executive producer, while the direction and script are the responsibility of Chris and Paul Weitz, which adds considerable appeal for the audience.

The series features a supporting cast that includes David Dastmalchian, Noma Dumezweni, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski, promising a diverse and talented group on screen. Murderbot will premiere its first two episodes on May 16 on Apple TV Plus, with new episodes available every Friday until July 11, giving science fiction fans plenty to look forward to in the coming months.
