The company states that its model is “the first publicly available video model designed to be commercially safe.”
Although the general release does not yet have a specific date, Adobe has opened a beta testing period in which only users on the waiting list will be able to access the Firefly Video Model. The development of this tool began in April 2023 and is based on the techniques that Adobe has perfected with Firefly, its image synthesis model, which is already integrated into Photoshop.
The main target audience for Adobe is entertainment industry professionals, such as video creators and editors, as Firefly Video Model allows for the creation of sequences that naturally integrate with traditional audiovisual content. The company has not yet disclosed which clients are currently using these tools, although according to Reuters, major brands like Gatorade and Mattel are already using Adobe’s technology to customize product designs and packaging, such as Gatorade bottles or Barbie doll packaging.
Despite the enthusiasm of some brands, AI video generation tools, like Adobe’s new one, might encounter some resistance among the creative community. A recent case was the creepy Toys “R” Us ad, generated by AI with the Sora model from OpenAI, which was heavily criticized on social media for the quality of the results and ethical issues.
