Zombies also have the right to shake their skeleton: SoLA, the expansion of Dead Island 2, already has a release date

Shortly after the release of Dead Island 2 last year, Deep Silver and developer Dambuster Studios announced that they were preparing two expansions for the action RPG. Haus, the first one, was released in November, and now the release date for the second one has been announced.

Dead Island 2: SoLA will be released in less than a month, on April 17th. The paid expansion will take players to a new location in the form of a psychedelic music festival in the heart of Los Angeles. “Drawn to the festival by an enigmatic warning message, users must explore the ruins of SoLA and put an end to this otherworldly threat,” says Deep Silver in the press release.

In addition to the new story content, SoLA will also bring new enemies, such as the Whipper, a creature that self-mutilates and attacks you by throwing its intestines at you, and the Clotter, another apex zombie that can “decompose into a disgusting pile of viscera”, in which form it becomes invulnerable and can shoot “a powerful stream of putrid blood” at you.

Finally, the new expansion of Dead Island 2 will also bring new weapons with the Ripper, “a deadly fusion of a baseball bat and a circular saw” that already appeared in the first Dead Island, and the saw blade launcher, which is quite self-explanatory. With no price yet, Dead Island 2: SoLA will be available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and Xbox One.

Alexa will let you call out to Zombies in Dead Island 2

Amazon’s Alexa is finally being put to good use as far as us horror gamers are concerned. With Gamescom 2022 officially underway, the tech giant opened the show with news that you’ll be able to speak to zombies in Dead Island 2. The best part is that you don’t need to call out Alexa’s name when you do so.

Besides making the announcement on the show, Amazon made sure to mention it on its latest blog. The Alexa feature will be built-in within Dead Island 2, so you won’t need to worry about connecting to additional devices. It would be odd calling the personal assistant on your phone while hacking away at zombies in the game.

Another bonus is that you don’t need to say Alexa’s name every time you want to activate the feature. Can you imagine walking up to the undead and saying, “Hey, Alexa, Zombie I’m going to kick your a…”? It would be really awkward, so Amazon is making sure it’s not necessary.

So, how will it work, exactly? Apparently, you can speak directly into your microphone and Dead Island 2 will acknowledge it via Alexa. You can chat with NPCs and ask for directions, which is the main purpose. It gives you a better interaction with the characters, but we don’t know which questions will work at this point.

Alexa will let you call out Zombies in Dead Island 2

My main issue is what will happen when you ask something the NPC doesn’t have an answer to. Will we have to deal with them saying, “I don’t understand your question” for every instance? Here’s hoping Alexa knows all the answers by the time this is fully implemented.

In other news, you can check out the latest Dead Island 2 trailer that appeared 8 years after the first.

New trailer for Dead Island 2 that only took eight years to release

Let’s step back into the way back machine for a minute. It’s 2014. West Africa is being ravaged by the Ebola epidemic, Sochi, Russia, sees the start of the XXII Winter Olympic Games, and gamers the world over get their first taste of Dead Island 2. Yes, the first trailer for this game was released in 2014. Since then? Radio silence on the follow-up trailer or release date front. Until now.

It’s only taken 8 years, but we finally have a new trailer for Dead Island 2, and it looks bleeping epic. Gasmescom’s Opening Night Live showcase introduced us to myriad new and upcoming titles, but one of the most surprising, and now highly-anticipated title, is Dead Island 2. With a throat slash here and a pink mist cloud there, the game pole-vaulted into our heart once more. You know, like the protagonist did to that one undead guy with the pointy end of his gun?

Well, he’s not actually the protagonist. His name is Jacob, and we now know that he’s one of six playable characters that we’ll get to cause carnage with when the game comes out. ‘When’s it being released?’ I can hear you thinking. You’ll be excited to know that those of you who thrive on shoving pointy-ended objects through zombie skulls will be able to do that and so much more from the 3rd of February next year. That’s no time at all, seeing as we’ve been sharpening our pointy objects for 8 years.

As for the trailer, I’m not going to give you a dramatic play-by-play as I did for the Callisto Protocol trailer; there’s simply too much going on and we’d both be stuck in the fantasy on this page for three hours. Needless to say, it’s got blood, it’s got gore, and it’s got Finish Him’s so realistic and detailed that you can practically smell the rotting corpse flesh from the other side of the screen.

New trailer for Dead Island 2

If you hate zombies, love realistic gratuitous violence, and want to engage in such displays in an environment so beautiful you simultaneously don’t want to burn it to the ground, you’ll be more than happy with Dead Island 2.

I’m off to sharpen up on my sharp-shooting and prepare for the digital slaughter of the century. Feel free to check the article we did 8 years ago about the original Dead Island 2 trailer.
