Poppy Playtime game is headed to the big screen

‘You opened my case.’ Those bone-chilling words uttered by the titular girl doll, Poppy Playtime, might be the beginning of a whole new story for the indie horror project. The producer of IT, Roy Lee, sees a film premiere in Poppy’s near future. He has said that he will produce the film and is looking for filmmakers willing to direct the planned project.

Poppy Playtime DOWNLOAD

Anyone who has played, or watched a YouTube or Twitch playthrough by one of many video game gods, will know that Poppy Playtime has solidly cemented itself as a title from the same deranged and demented mentality that led to Five Nights at Freddy’s. This kind of game has become a genre within the broader horror genre and has taken the world by storm more times than can be counted.

Similar to FNAF, Poppy Playtime takes seemingly innocent childhood themes and turns them into your next nightmare. We can see from the highly-acclaimed The Conjuring expanded universe of horror movies that people love being scared. There is virtually no doubt that a movie matching the in-game history and lore of Poppy Playtime would be a massive success.

On the point of lore, the in-game mysteries and stories are reason enough for it to be turned into the next breakout scare-a-minute cinematic horror title. The game is jam-packed with secrets, mysteries that are far from being solved, and a list of potential big baddies for the next parts of the game that could change horror movies forever.

According to the latest reports, Studio71 is taking the lead on the production of the movie and has already let a few details about the coming title slip.

‘We’re thrilled to be partnered with such an incredible team in Mob Games and their breakout game, Poppy Playtime. Their vision for this game is a vivid tapestry that allows the space for feature films that don’t retread on the narrative’s gameplay. Fans of this franchise are in store for a new storyline that stands alone as its own terrifying and gripping saga.’

Going by this comment from Michael Shreiber of Studio71, we can clearly see that the game and the movie will be in the same universe, but not the exact same story. Like we said earlier, the possibilities for storylines and conflict within this game’s universe are endless, and we are so excited to see how this shapes out.

We’ll be sure to bring you more details as they get released. In other news, it seems we all baited our breath for an April 29th release of Chapter 2 of Poppy Playtime. Here’s hoping we see a release of the highly-anticipated second chapter soon, but while you wait, why not experience the Poppy Playtime horror on mobile?

Poppy Playtime review | Escape the horror

Poppy Playtime is a horror escape room puzzle game developed and published by MOB Games, which was released on October 12, 2021. It places you in a haunted toy factory with very little information. Your mission is to enter the facility and discover what happened to it.

There’s a certain air of suspense when you play Poppy Playtime. As an author of fantasy and horror novels, it’s an element I highly respect, and I love how the developers incorporated it in every aspect of the game. Read more about what I experienced in the review below!

Poppy Playtime story

Every good horror story should have an enticing plot that draws you in. It doesn’t even have to be a massive one; as long as it’s interesting enough to keep you engaged, it works. Let’s see how it plays out in this Poppy Playtime review.

A haunted toy factory

The introduction scene has enough to send chills down your back. At first, you have no idea what’s going on, except that you’re in an abandoned building. To know more about the story, you need to head in and find some clues.

The posters and notes you discover lying around indicate that you’re in a toy factory that closed a few years ago. If you’ve ever been to an abandoned building, you’ll know just how creepy it feels. As you enter each room in the facility, you’ll get some hints about what life was like as a toymaker.

Collecting videotapes

More clues to the story lie within five videotapes you’ll find lying around in random locations. The color corresponds to a VCR you’ll discover nearby. When you insert the tape, the television will play a short transcript, sometimes with dialogue between different people.

Poppy Playtime Review

The writing on the wall

Finally, you’ll want to pay attention to hand-scribbled words on the walls. It seems like someone else was here before you, trying to escape. There are plenty of warnings informing you of impending doom, but you’ll be left wondering what the danger is until the end. This forecasting is a fantastic element of horror tales that I love.

How long to play Poppy Playtime

The puzzles were quick for me to solve, so it only took me about 15 minutes to complete Poppy Playtime. There’s one section at the end that may keep you busy for some time, depending on the routes you take through the vents. It all depends on how long it takes for you to solve each room, so it may take you longer.

Poppy Playtime gameplay

While Poppy Playtime’s story is exhilarating, the gameplay is where the game really shines. It features elements of Resident Evil 7 and Silent Hill P.T., specifically where the suspense and puzzles are concerned. I’ll address more of these comparisons in the review below.

Learning how to play Poppy Playtime

Fortunately, there’s no tutorial for Poppy Playtime. The reason I’m happy about this is that it would ruin the suspense and gameplay. Sure, you may see a message appear on your screen on how to interact with objects, but they’re few and far between. For the most part, you’re left looking around each room, wondering what to do next.

Difficulties and puzzles

There are also no difficulty levels like you’d find in most Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. The puzzles remain as easy or difficult as they are, and you can’t change them. It means that all players are on an equal footing from the start.

The puzzles change in every room, and you need to use your environment to solve them. With the help of the mechanical hands, you’ll discover you need to push or pull objects, or you’ll have to link electrical pylons and connections with power. While not incredibly challenging, they were entertaining to solve.

Poppy Playtime Review

Combat mechanics

You won’t have any shooting or fighting abilities in Poppy Playtime. You’ll spend most of the game moving around, inspecting items, and solving puzzles. There’s only one time you’ll actually need to defend yourself, and it’s to use the environment against the final boss, Huggy Wuggy. That’s all I’m going to say without spoiling the ending for you.

Poppy Playtime Review

Movement abilities

There’s more of a focus on movement in Poppy Playtime. With the two mechanical arms, you’ll move and interact with objects. You’ll also need to make use of running and crouching to save your life near the end. There’s also a jump ability, but I found little use for it throughout the game.

Saving points

Unlike Silent Hill with the Halo of the Sun, there are no visible save points in the game. The first time I died near the end of Poppy Playtime, I feared I would have to start over. However, it does save when you reach critical points or new scenes, for which I’m eternally grateful.

User interface

The user interface presents the bare minimum in Poppy Playtime, which is ideal for a horror puzzle game. There are no health icons, but the screen will become blurry and the bass on your speakers will buzz when you’re hurt. Give it a moment, and all will go back to normal. You can press Esc to enter the main menu and inventory, but that’s about it.

Poppy Playtime Review

Gameplay performance

Somehow, Poppy Playtime needs a lot of resources. It’s quite surprising, especially for a game that’s only 15 minutes long. However, when you read more about the visuals and sound later in this review, you may get an idea why. Here are the recommended PC requirements:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Storage: 10 GB available space
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 / Radeon RX 580

It’s worth mentioning that Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1 is now available on mobile. The gameplay performance is incredible on PC with no crashing or performance issues, but it appears as if the mobile version has problems in the final chase with Huggy Wuggy. It may be best to play the computer version first.

Poppy Playtime visuals and sound

Here comes the exciting part of my Poppy Playtime review. I’ve grown up with several horror games and movies in my life, hence my passion for writing this genre for my books. It takes a lot for games to terrify me, but I must admit that this game did put a smile on my face. I loved the chills and suspense, which is where the graphics and sound play the most significant part.

Overall graphics

The visuals in Poppy Playtime are incredibly impressive and almost realistic. Items and colors are crisp and clear, and many scenes deliver a haunting atmosphere. It’s outstanding how much of a story the graphics present without someone actually telling you what’s going on. The lighting and shadows are also marvelous, but I did need to increase the brightness for some rooms that were just too dark to enjoy.

Poppy Playtime Review

Character and room designs

You won’t find any characters except Huggy Wuggy in Poppy Playtime. In fact, this boss has become so famous that it features in other games, such as Friday Night Funkin’ vs Minus Huggy Wuggy.

SPOILER ALERT: There’s also a doll at the end in a glass cage that reminds me very much of Annabelle from the horror movies. That scene was enough to make me gulp in fear and delight.

Poppy Playtime Review

As for the room designs, they set the scene for the puzzles, but there’s enough forecasting and suspense to make you wonder what’s coming next. The most exciting part for me was when the Huggy Wuggy chase ends, and you enter these hallways. It made me feel like I was back in Silent Hill P.T., but it’s only visual. Sadly, they made no use of puzzles in this area, and it’s just an exit for the first chapter.

Poppy Playtime Review

Sound effects

The sound effects work in harmony with the graphics to fill you with suspense. There’s voice acting in the videotapes, and Huggy Wuggy’s noises, while it chases you, is enough to make you want to speed up a bit. It made me wish there was a boost button to run a bit faster, but you need headphones on or your bass on maximum for the complete effect.

Final verdict of Poppy Playtime

Poppy Playtime takes what we love about classic horror puzzle games and puts them together for a quick adventure. There are only a few jump-scare moments, while the remainder of the game relies on suspense and forecasting. If this game is anything to go by, I expect Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2 will be way more intense.

There are even rumors that Poppy Playtime will be heading outside in the next chapter, which will be more exhilarating. For now, I recommend you download Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 as soon as possible before Chapter 2 arrives. You won’t want to miss out on the action.

Pros

  • Plenty of suspense
  • Fun action scene at the end
  • Nods to horror games and movies
  • Environmental puzzles
  • Incredible graphics and sound
  • Ending is a fantastic cliffhanger

Cons

  • Some scenes are too dark

Poppy Playtime finally hits mobile

MOB Games has officially announced that its highly sought-after PC horror title Poppy Playtime is now available on mobile devices. Poppy Playtime was initially released in October 2021 on Steam and quickly became one of the most popular games in its genre. Almost immediately after its release, the app stores were populated to the hilt with mobile imitations, but finally, after months of waiting, Android and iOS gamers can enjoy Poppy Playtime with an official mobile client.

Poppy Playtime follows the story of an employee of the Playtime Co. toy factory. At the start of the game, the factory is abandoned and has been that way since some assumedly horrific event caused all of the staff to leave. Throughout the short but impactful episodic game, the player must solve various puzzles to move deeper within the toy factory while avoiding a character that has become more of an icon than Freddy Fazbear from FNAF; Huggy Wuggy.

The game does what most horror games do; it poses many questions concerning its own nature and the experiences contained within. Cleverly though, it never gives up more than a few hints. Hints that, in turn, lead to more questions. This incredible attention to detail on the part of the writers and game designers has inspired a massive subculture of Poppy Playtime fans trying to discover the hidden lore behind experiment 1006 and, of course, the appearance of the titular character Poppy Playtime.

Poppy Playtime coming to mobile, of course, means a whole new breed of gamers finally has the chance to pick up the famous grab pack and delve into the mysteries and jump scares deep within the heart of the now-iconic toy factory. We can expect to see the mobile version make as big an impact on the mobile gaming scene as the PC version did on its platform and all the media of content transmission surrounding it.

Stay tuned to keep up with the latest on this and other incredible gaming titles, including our expert playthrough reviews, news, and how-tos. In case you missed it, the sequel is confirmed! Read everything we know about the follow-on episodic horror game and why we think Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 might take place outside.

Poppy Playtime may be headed outside

Playtime Toy Co. is an iconic location in the gaming sphere. The abandoned toy factory that features the setting of Poppy Playtime may even be more iconic than Grove Street in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. ‘Grove street. Home. At least it was before….’ You know the rest. Unused models might suggest that the Indie horror sensation is headed outdoors in a future chapter

Poppy Playtime is a well-known indie horror puzzle game developed by MOB Games. The game takes place inside the Playtime Co. toy factory, where players must solve puzzles and find clues to unlock the secret of why everyone who worked at the facility disappeared. All this while running from the iconic oversized homicidal stuffed toy Huggy Wuggy. The game bears certain similarities in gameplay and environment to Five Nights at Freddy’s.

When exploring beyond the boundaries of Poppy Playtime’s map, YouTuber Shesez discovered that the exterior of the Playtime Co. facility is fully modeled and rendered, despite serving no initial purpose in the game. The facility’s entrance was found to be modeled to the same level of detail and intricacy as the inside. Even more damning, several exterior features like domes and windows are modeled to the same standard.

This incredible attention to detail suggests that the exterior of the building may have been meant to be visible at some point during the game. However, it’s also possible that the creators of Poppy Playtime had initially planned for players to enter the facility from the outside. The most tantalizing theory, of course, is that at some point in its future, Poppy Playtime will feature gameplay outside of the iconic facility.

While the official trailer for chapter two of Poppy Playtime, titled Fly in a Web, has already dropped and looks to take place within the facility once more, there is still hope that future chapters might see the player venture out into the great unknown currently taken up by an expansive white haze.

How to play Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2

Poppy Playtime by MOB Games caused a stir when Chapter 1 launched on October 21, 2021. The Huggy Wuggy toy caused many screams on Twitch and YouTube gaming channels, but the fun isn’t over yet.

The developer recently announced the launch of the second installment with an official trailer. We’ll show you how to play Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2 when it’s available, when we think it will launch, and what to expect.

Rumored release date for Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2

While the trailer doesn’t reveal the exact launch date for Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2, it does indicate “Early 2022.” If we look at the first installment, there was a five-month gap between the announcement and the release. Using this pattern, we believe we could see Chapter 2 appear around March 2022.

Of course, this is just a guess. However, another option could be Halloween 2022, but that doesn’t tie in with the Early 2022 statement. It all depends on how well development goes and if there’s enough interest in Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2.

How to play Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2

When it becomes available, you can install Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2 as a DLC add-on to Chapter 1. Therefore, you’ll need the base game to play it, as it’s not a standalone title. You’ll pay the same amount as the first version, but that may change by next year.

You can hear the voice of a female toy, and we wonder if this sets the scene for the next boss to escape from. Tips for playing Poppy Playtime – Chapter 1

When you enter the abandoned building, you’ll notice some items lying around while there are keypads on locked doors. Before you can proceed into the main part of Poppy Playtime, you’ll need to get your GrabPack hands. Here’s how you go about it.

How to Get The Blue GrabPack Hand in Poppy Playtime

The first blue GrabPack hand is easy to locate. When you enter the abandoned toy manufacturing facility, you’ll see a security desk. Look to the left, and you’ll see a bag with the blue hand in it. You’ll need this to proceed with the rest of the game.

How To Find The Red GrabPack Hand in Poppy Playtime

The second red hand is more challenging to find and will introduce most of the gameplay mechanics. You’ll need to enter the main facility, where you’ll see Huggy Wuggy. He’s stationary for now, but that won’t last forever.

When you look around, you’ll see two rooms with scanners. While the one needs both hands, the other only needs the blue hand. As soon as you try to open that door, the power cuts out and everything goes dark.

It’s time to investigate Huggy Wuggy again. You’ll now see a key in his hand that wasn’t there before. Head to the power room and use the key to return the electricity. When you go back to the main room, you can open the blue-hand door, but Huggy Wuggy is….gone….

Go down the hall until you see a room with the number “05” on it. This area requires you to head up the stairs where you’ll see a crane with a control panel to operate it. The only issue is that the fuses are gone. (dun-dun-duuuuuuhhhh *spooky music*)

If it isn’t obvious, you need to find those fuses. You’ll see the blue one next to the control panel. If you look down below the catwalk by a set of shelves, you’ll find the red one. The yellow and green ones are playing hide-n-go seek by some boxes further in the area.

Once you have all four fuses, head back and power the control panel. You can now use the crane to pull a glass box onto the conveyor belt. Congratulations, you now have the red Grabpack hand

All VHS Tapes Locations in Poppy Playtime

One of the achievements in Poppy Playtime is to find all the VHS tapes. Some of these are easy to locate, while others are more challenging. If you’ve spent more than a few hours looking for all five, we’re more than happy to help with the locations:

  • Green VHS tape: on the security desk at the start, on the right-hand side of the computer monitor.
  • Blue VHS tape: After you complete the first puzzle, head into the next room and look for an office table on the left.
  • Yellow VHS tape: You’ll see a room filled with shelves. Head to the wall with the yellow poster, and pass the first set of shelves. The second set will have the tape.
  • Pink VHS tape: After you have both hands, you’ll need to make a toy. You’ll end up on top of stairs where there’s a gap. Look to the right of the gap, and use your blue hand to retrieve it.
  • Grey VHS Tape: You’ll locate this tape at the end of the chapter, and the VHS player is on the right nearby.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 boss: How to escape Huggy Wuggy

As soon as you’re done making the toy, Poppy Playtime tells you that you may now exit. However, Huggy Wuggy isn’t going to let you go so easily. You won’t be able to fight him, so here’s how you can escape instead.

Turn and run for the conveyor belt where you found the red hand. You’ll see an entrance you can head through. Run down the passage until you hit a crossroads. As Huggy Wuggy will be coming for you from the other end, you need to turn right.

You’ll soon find a conveyor belt that’s impossible to climb. On your left is a hole you can drop down into. You’ll end up in a new part of the factory, but broken machinery will block your way. Turn right, head straight, and find a small entrance on the left.

After you crouch into the entrance, run until you find a door. Give it a moment, and you’ll see the door lifting up. Now’s the time to sprint as fast as you can to some cardboard boxes

When you turn around, look up. There’s a block with some hands painted in various colors. Use both hands to quickly slap it so it falls onto the catwalk. When it does, it will knock out Huggy Wuggy, leaving you free to escape.

Poppy Playtime: Guides and Tips

Now that you understand how to play Poppy Playtime, we want to share some tips with you. There are some spoilers ahead, so if you’d prefer not knowing, then skip this section.

Solving the security door code in Poppy Playtime

The first chapter is called “A Tight Squeeze” and sees you face off against a popular toy known as Huggy Wuggy. One of the first challenges is getting into the factory. When you approach the entrance, you’ll see a blue scanner.

The item is behind the front desk, so you won’t be able to reach it. The only way you can obtain the object is with the Grabpack, but that’s locked in the security room. You’ll see a pad with various buttons, and you’ll need to press them in the correct sequence to open the door.

Head to the gift shop. Look for boxes that have been knocked over and stare up until you find a working model train. You’ll notice that the carriages are in various colors. Well done, you’ve just solved your first clue. Write down the order of the colors and use that on the security room pad.

When you’re inside, you need to watch a tape on how the Grabpack works before you receive a blue hand. You can use this item to open the entrance to the factory. Now, you’ll need the red hand.

Finding the red Grabpack Hand

As soon as you enter the factory in Poppy Playtime, you’ll meet Huggy Wuggy. He’s standing still and doesn’t pose any threat at this point. You can explore the areas around him, but you’ll need that red Grabpack hand to unlock the full functionality of your backpack.

There are two doors with scanners. One needs both hands, but the other only needs the blue hand. When you attempt to open it, the power will go off, leaving you in the dark. Huggy Wuggy has a key in his hand that will open the Power Room, where you can return the electricity. When you head back, the ominous toy will be gone.

Head down the hall and look for a door labelled “05”. Go up the stairs and look for a crane and control panel. The latter will have four switches in different colors. The fuses are missing, so you’ll need to find them.

Here’s a quick overview of where they are:

  • Blue: left of control panel
  • Red: shelf on right of conveyor belt, slightly lower down
  • Yellow and Green: opposite side of room on left of conveyor, near room with scanners by the boxes

When you return the fuses, the crane will collect a glass box and place it on the belt. Within it is the red Grabpack hand.
