Rocket League launches ‘The Block,’ a basketball-themed limited-time event

We’ve all sort of grown accustomed to the football-themed madness that has lent itself so well to the popularity of Rocket League. However, fans have just been chucked a curve ball in the form of a brand-new basketball-themed event. Hurry up and check it out though – the event only runs until October 18th

While everyone else is going Halloween crazy, Rocket league has launched ‘The Block,’ a limited-time basketball-themed event. Instead of aiming for the small goals for which Rocket League has become known, the platform is now home to larger circular hoops on either side of a new arena.

In addition to the new game configuration and arena, Rocket League is also introducing new challenges and rewards to experience. Included in the new rewards are a brand new animated double dribble topper and a new game-time player anthem. This event won’t last forever, so head on into the game and pick up your rewards as soon as you can.

The hoops might present the Rocket League pros among us with a brand new challenge. In fact, Hoops is replacing the extra mode competitive tournament until the event is relegated to the history books and gaming nostalgia museums on October 18th.

Rocket League launches ‘The Block,’ a basketball-themed 2

If you’ve found yourself getting a little bored of the classic Rocket League experience, this is definitely an event you’ll want to participate in. Even if you anticipate that you won’t be terribly good at basketball, half the fun of the game is trying anyway.

In other news, Batman has returned to the Rocket League. The Dark Knight, his cars, and all sorts of other batman-themed merch are available in the Batman bundle. This is paid DLC, so you’ll have to fork out to drive the selection of legendary batmobiles that the bundle contains.

Batman Returns to Rocket League with Caped Crusader Inspired Bundle

The Dark Knight is finally returning to Rocket League for the first time in around two years. This time, the beloved anti-hero returns to celebrate the theatrical launch of the new The Batman movie, which sees Robert Pattinson step into the defiantly glamorous life of Gotham City’s favorite crusader.

Returning alongside the titular character is his famous vehicle, the Batmobile, in its 2022 theatrical form. The new car joins other classics like the ‘89 Batmobile and the Dark Knight’s Tumbler. The new car, along with the rest of the updated Batman bundle, is only available as paid DLC and will no longer be available in the store from Tuesday, March 8th at 6 PM PCT.

The new DLC pack will cost you 1100 credits. Here’s all the loot you’ll get:

  • Batmobile 2022 Body
  • Batmobile 2022 Engine Audio
  • Batmobile 2022 Wheels
  • Batmobile 2022 Boost
  • Batmobile 2022 Trail
  • Dark Knight Matte Paint Finish
  • Reel Life Decal
  • The Batman Goal Explosion

The items in the updated Batman bundle can only be coupled to the 2022 Batmobile body, which cannot be customized with any other items. The only item that is compatible with other vehicles is the Batman Goal Explosion. The bundle also introduces a new limited-time mode called Gotham City Rumble. Power-ups in this new mode are centered around Batman villains and include Poison Ivy’s vines and the Joker’s boxing glove.

The 2022 Batmobile comes with a Dominus Hitbox, which it shares with other classic Rocket League cars like the Dominus, De Lorean, and ‘89 Batmobile. The Dominus hitbox is a feature of the longest car bodies in the game, and this means the 2022 Batmobile will probably be best suited to Rocket League Beginners.

If the inclusion of Robert Pattinson’s Batmobile is the motivation you’ve been waiting for to get into the game, check out this Rocket League – Revenge of the Battle-Cars DLC Pack.

Five Apps to Try This Weekend: featuring Polarr, Agar.io, and Rocket League

We have spent all week looking for the best five apps to keep you entertained this weekend, and we think we have done a pretty good job. That said, if you think we missed something, be sure to let us know in the comments.

First this week we have the incredibly useful Hexlock (And). This app lets you lock other individual apps with their own password, letting you leave your phone unlocked while still keeping sensitive information secure.

App number two is Magic Duels (iOS), the latest digital installment of the Magic the Gathering (MTG) collectible card game. This is the best interpretation of the fantasy card game yet, with slick controls, the most recent release of cards, and the ability to unlock everything for free.

Third we have Polarr (iOS). This photo app offers professional editing options, letting you adjust the exposure, contrast, distortion, and a stack of other settings. It even lets you save your tweaks to apply them like as a preset filter later.

Agar.io (And|iOS) is our fourth app this week. This simple game has you control a ball as it moves around a stark arena trying to absorb smaller balls to get bigger while avoiding larger orbs that want to consume you. Oddly relaxing and involving, this one is getting a lot of people hooked.

Finally we have Rocket League (Win), a soccer game with a twist: you are in a car. The fast paced action of this game is frantic, but incredibly fun and addictive. Online matches allow up to four cars aside, making this is the perfect game to play with friends.

That’s it for this week, I will be back next Friday with another five great apps to try. Remember to subscribe so you never miss an episode, and I will see you next time.

App of the Week: Rocket League

Our App of the Week this week is a game that mixes three of our favorite things – cars, soccer, and explosions. Giving you the keys to a responsive, acrobatic racing machine, Rocket League is high-octane motor-sport action at its best.

This simple and elegant concept has you racing around arenas, desperately trying to wrangle an over-sized ball in to the goal. This all feels perfect thanks to Rocket League’s fantastic physics. As your car careens around the arena, the game perfectly simulates every spin, jump, and collision – making controlling the action feel more intuitive than driving a jumping car ever should.

The team based soccer action is perfect for playing with friends. You have the options to play locally with your companions via split-screen, or online in teams of up to four cars. And with eight cars on the pitch it doesn’t take long for matches to degenerate into glorious chaos.

To really seal the deal, Rocket League also lets you completely customize every aspect of your car. Paint work, decals, body, even the color of the flames that burst from your exhaust when you use the boost, everything can be altered to your liking before taking it online.

Put simply, Rocket League is going to make you laugh and smile.
