Well, or even better, since we’re getting older, play Tony Hawk 1+2, the fabulous remake that came out to brighten our 2020 and promised to be the beginning of a revival for the franchise games. And yet, after its success (it became the best-selling game of the franchise!), silence came. Until now.
Call of skate
Obviously, the audience was expectant, either for a ‘Tony Hawk 3+4’ or for a new game based on the skater (who, by the way, is already 55 years old). It is a beloved franchise, it has been profitable and has a fan base that wants more, so what did Activision do? Of course: cancel the project and make the programmers work on ‘Call of Duty’.
According to the video from Did you know gaming? where we learned this information, Vicarious Visions initially wanted to release the remake of all four games at the same time, but it was too ambitious, so they settled for adding features from the later games. The studio, now called Blizzard Albany, has basically become Activision’s errand boy: they have been involved in ‘Diablo IV’ and ‘Call of Duty’, but nothing personal since then.
And it’s not that they didn’t try: they even had the project of making a 3D Donkey Kong that would have been incredible. But, like all creative or innovative ideas from video game studios, it has been floating in the ether. Meanwhile, by the way, if you’re curious, this year’s ‘Call of Duty’ game still doesn’t have a defined title, but it is known that it will be developed in an open world and, reportedly, it will be another installment of ‘Black Ops’ in the Gulf War. It was worth hanging up the cap and skateboard for this.
