Since May 2023, AXN Movies, the specialized movie channel launched through major national operators like Movistar Plus+, has been offering a varied programming focused on commercial films. However, after its launch, an additional cost of 1.49 euros per month was implemented, which led many users to question its value within the platform. And many chose not to subscribe.
More classic cinema on Movistar Plus+ is always good news
Starting in June, AXN Movies will become part of the basic package of Movistar Plus+ at no additional cost, a decision that represents a significant change in the channel’s distribution strategy. This integration will allow all Movistar subscribers to access the channel without having to make an extra payment, a measure that is sure to be well received by the audience that had shown reluctance towards the additional charge.
Users who initially subscribed to AXN Movies have started receiving email notifications informing them that they will stop paying the corresponding fee starting next month, thus confirming the information provided by Movistar on its technical support page. In mid-May, the AXN Movies channel will be part of the Movistar Plus+ package, which means that its monthly fee will no longer be charged, reads the company’s official communication.
Currently, AXN Movies is available on dial 46 of the Movistar Plus+ lineup, although there is still uncertainty about whether this numbering will remain or change according to the operator’s future decisions. The channel, which is an evolution of the classic AXN channels from Sony Pictures Television, complements the Hits channel by M+, thus strengthening the cinematic offering within the platform.
The changes in the availability of the AXN Movies channel, along with its immediate inclusion in the basic package, seem to position it favorably to attract an even larger audience looking to enjoy a varied selection of cinema from all times.
