The launch of Escape from Tarkov 1.0 on Steam has turned out to be one of the most problematic and controversial releases of the year. After years in early access, players have encountered a series of technical issues and, even more alarmingly, with inexplicable bans that have left many unable to enjoy the game, even after returning their copy.
A frustrated community
From the beginning, access issues were evident. Many users experienced difficulties logging in and a notable overload on the servers. Battlestate Games, the game’s developer, apologized through a statement on social media, attributing these inconveniences to the high influx of users. However, the apologies have not been enough to calm the growing frustration within the community.
One of the most serious problems relates to the refund process on Steam. Several players have reported that after returning the game, their accounts were permanently banned, which has raised concerns about the consequences of requesting a refund. Various users on social media, particularly on Reddit, have warned about the risk associated with returning the game, suggesting that it could lead to the banning of their Battlestate Games accounts, especially considering that many have had to purchase an additional key to play on Steam.
The confusion has intensified because not all players have faced the same issues. While some have only lost access to their linked Steam account, others have been banned for no apparent reason, even without having requested a refund. This environment of uncertainty and the lack of clarity from Battlestate Games have led to widespread criticism among users, who are demanding explanations and immediate solutions.
The situation highlights that the developer still has significant challenges to address beyond adjustments and improvements in their game.
