The indie Sims sells 250,000 copies in its first eight hours

Paralives was one of the most anticipated games of the first half of 2026. This game promised to be an indie alternative to The Sims after the fiasco of inZOI, and it seems that people were waiting for something like this. Because if there is one thing that Paralives is, for now, it is a success. It has sold 250,000 copies in its first eight hours, figures typical of major industry launches.

Paralives is a life simulation game in the style of The Sims developed by Alex Massé, an indie game designer known for developing games like Tuber Simulator for PewDiePie. His intention with Paralives is to create an evolution of the concept of The Sims where the Parafolk, the name of the characters we create, can inhabit an open world where they can create a complete life. This includes building a house, having a job, and getting involved in the life of their neighborhood, as well as the numerous events that can happen.

Although it was announced for early access release on December 8, 2025, it was delayed until May 25, 2026, because the game still needed more development time. Now, after its release, it seems that it was a wise decision. Not only has it sold 250,000 copies in its first eight hours, but it also has 3,540 reviews on Steam, most of them Very Positive, and the few negative ones are all about small bugs or lack of content. Something to be expected in early access.

With two years ahead in early access, there is still quite a bit of time before we see the full version of Paralives. But it seems that the game is already managing to stand out among its peers. Now we just have to see if Massé and his team can maintain the public’s interest during this time.

Subnautica 2 has been for years the most wished game on Steam and at its launch, on May 14, it was an absolute sales success. Sweeping among critics and the public, managing to captivate an audience eager for more Subnautica, they have achieved what seemed impossible: it is the fastest-selling game of 2026. This translates into spectacular figures.

Subnautica 2 is taking the world by storm

One week after its release, according to Rhys Elliot, market analysis director at Alinea Analytics, Subnautica 2 has sold 4.1 million copies and generated 100 million dollars in revenue. In comparison, on Xbox it has sold a much more modest 100,000 copies, demonstrating the problem Microsoft has in attracting audiences to its platform.

That said, there is a reason for it. According to Elliot, “many Xbox players accessed Subnautica 2 through Game Pass,” so the total number of players is “well above six million.” This makes Subnautica 2 the best-selling and most played game of 2026 so far.

Something that didn’t seem so likely just a few months ago. The company that was going to publish it, Krafton, tried to cancel it to avoid paying 200 million in profits to its creators if they met the objectives. Finally, although the game has been self-published by its developers, Unknown Worlds, the judge in the trial where it was decided to return the rights stated that, if the conditions for their bonus are met, Krafton will still have to pay them the same. Something that seems to be more than sealed already.

For all these reasons, it points out that Subnautica 2 is one of the great games of the year. And Unknown Worlds is one of the big winners of 2026 in the video game industry. While they started poorly, it seems they are going to end this year very well.

Valve wants a lawsuit against them to be dismissed "because people enjoy surprises"

Valve wants a lawsuit against them to be dismissed "because people enjoy surprises"

Last February, New York City Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against Valve for the use of loot boxes in their games. In her own words, in Counter-Strike 2 “children and adults alike are illegally gambling for the chance to win virtual prizes”. She argues that loot boxes are essentially unregulated gambling and should be treated by law as such.

Valve with questionable arguments

Valve’s legal department has responded with a tremendously weak defense. Claiming that “people enjoy surprises” and that “part of the appeal of many popular collectibles, such as baseball cards or cereal boxes, is the possibility of opening a closed box and being surprised with a rare item”. Stating that “no legislature or court has ever condemned this act as illegal gambling”.

The problem is that this is not true. The European Parliament declared that loot boxes are gambling in 2023, tightening its PEGI this past March in relation to this legislation. So it doesn’t seem that this defense has much ground to stand on.

What would happen if the New York justice system sided with the attorney general? That Valve would have problems. The lawsuit demands the equivalent of three times the profits Valve has made from loot boxes and to prevent them from selling them in the future in the state of New York. With the logistical issues this would entail, not to mention the legal precedent it would set. So Valve could be in trouble. If their attempt to pull a Saul Goodman doesn’t end up backfiring.

PlayStation will not release its most beloved games on PC from now on

Jason Schreier, a video game journalist from Bloomberg who already spoke about this information last March, has confirmed on Bluesky that the CEO of PlayStation Studio, Hermen Hulst, told his employees last Monday that the company will release its narrative games exclusively for PlayStation consoles.

This will only affect games that provide a single-player experience, such as Ghost of Yotei or the recent Saros, but not games that are multiplayer experiences, like Marathon or the anticipated Marvel Tokon.

PlayStation wants you to play its games on its console

This is something that has been rumored for months, but there was no confirmation until now. This means that anyone who has played Sony games on PC, such as God of War or Ghost of Tsushima, will need a PlayStation 5 to play their sequels.

Although it is a commercially sensible measure, as it provides reasons to buy their hardware, it is also being perceived among users as a move against PC gamers. Many of them have invested their time and money in the games they have released on PC and have no interest in switching to console, even if they are interested in the franchises they have developed. This demonstrates a disconnect between the player base and Sony’s business interests.

Moreover, it does not seem to fit the economic reality of these titles. All of Sony’s narrative titles have sold millions on PC, extending their lifespan. While it is true that they have also faced, on more than one occasion, compatibility issues and less than optimal performance.

Pending official confirmation, it seems that PC users will no longer be able to enjoy Sony titles on their platform.

Deadlock has been in closed alpha since at least August 2024, and its official release could happen any day now. But what everyone is waiting for is the third installment of a legendary game. Everyone is waiting for Half-Life 3. Everyone except, apparently, Chet Faliszek, the writer of Half-Life 2, Portal, and Left 4 Dead.

It’s hard to write a series with so much baggage

In a recent video published on YouTube, the screenwriter wanted to reflect on his experience writing about video games. Clarifying that he does not want to imply that Half-Life 3 is being produced, in the video he emphasizes how his perspective on writing video games has changed. Especially, due to the reception that the franchise has had over time.

In that sense, he has stated that the problem he sees in making Half-Life 3 is that it has too much associated story. It has an enormous amount of baggage and he doesn’t believe it will be easy to tackle. In his own words, “I don’t want to touch anything that has a huge backstory”. He shields himself by saying that he doesn’t want to create something that will be scrutinized by fans in a way that any contradiction will be considered a sacrilege and a cause for maximum personal offense.

This is something that Valve itself agrees with. Gabe Newell has stated in the past that if Half-Life 3 does not exist yet, it is because they do not want to make it unless they think they can create something as unique and special as the previous ones. Therefore, if this highly anticipated third installment is ever announced, we will know for sure that a journey like no other awaits us.

Just two weeks after its launch, the game from Night Street Games, a studio co-founded by the lead singer of Imagine Dragons, has announced that it will cease the development of new content due to its poor performance in the market.

A game that has flopped on Steam

With a peak of just 558 users and only a few dozen daily players, Last Flag has seen a dramatic decline in its community. Despite its efforts to attract more players, such as a free play period during weekends, the business model has not favored its acceptance. Unlike other current shooters that opt for a free-to-play format, Last Flag has a cost of 14.99 euros, which may have limited its access to a broader player base.

In a statement published on Steam, Night Street Games has acknowledged the financial difficulties that hinder the creation of additional content. However, the studio plans to release one last major update that will include custom lobbies, a new character, a new map, and cosmetic content. This version, still without a specific date, is expected for summer. However, there are no long-term expansion plans, and the studio has indicated that it will focus on keeping the game accessible for those who still want to enjoy it.

Despite the promotional efforts based on the popularity of Imagine Dragons, Last Flag has not captured the expected attention. The community now faces an uncertain future, hoping that the latest update will help keep the gaming experience alive through user engagement.

Subnautica 2 leaves behind the drama and announces release date and new trailer

Finally, the release date for the continuation of the underwater survival saga, Subnautica 2, created by Unknown Worlds, has been revealed. This game, which is under development by Krafton, will be available in early access starting May 14 on Xbox Series, Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.

It has been difficult, but here it is

As part of this announcement, a new cinematic trailer has been released that offers a fascinating glimpse into the underwater world that players will explore. The sequel promises intense survival experiences, pitting players against fearsome alien creatures in a cavernous and often terrifying environment.

The fundamental premise of the game remains the same as the previous title: survive while uncovering the secrets of a hostile aquatic world.

Subnautica 2 will offer players the option to choose from four pre-designed characters, in addition to the ability to modify them with various features, allowing for a customization that will enrich the gaming experience.

The cooperative multiplayer mode will also be a fundamental part of the adventure, enabling friends to join forces to explore forgotten ruins and gather crucial information about the submerged planet on which the game is set.

The arrival of the game on the mentioned platforms is just the beginning; it is expected that the content will evolve and improve over time thanks to the early access model. In addition, Unknown Worlds has a deadline until September 15 to reach a specific number of sales that could mean a payment of 250 million euros, a goal that Krafton has been trying to avoid, thus creating a high-expectation environment around the title.

This week, the cooperative shooter titled Far Far West made its debut in early access on Steam, receiving an exceptional reception with an impressive 97% community approval.

However, the game’s presentation has not been without controversy, especially due to one of its characters, Steamy, a mechanical cowboy who acts as a social ‘hub’ within the game.

Is this way of getting reviews a violation?

Steamy has the Steam logo on his face and when interacting with him, players are invited to leave a review of the game, which has led to many critiques mentioning the character. This fact has raised concerns about possible violations of Steam’s policies, specifically regarding the use of characters to promote reviews, a topic that has gained attention in the user community.

Several users have pointed out that Steamy’s behavior could violate the clauses established in the platform’s terms of service. Despite the controversy, this did not prevent Far Far West from appearing on the Steam front page for several hours, which some suggest may have influenced its visibility and high ratings, although the game is no longer featured on that front page.

Despite the fact that developers have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, it has been claimed on their Discord server that they are aware of the problem and plan to address the situation related to Steamy. This type of action can have an impact on the game’s visibility, a crucial aspect on the platform, as the Steam algorithm favors those titles that accumulate positive reviews.

For now, Far Far West is still available on Steam, and although the controversy over Steamy persists, it is likely that the developers are working on a solution.

The suspect of attempting to kill Trump was a video game developer… and not very good

Current events never rest. A third assassination attempt has occurred in the US this decade, all three against the same person: President Donald Trump. With his popularity falling even further after this assassination attempt, it does not seem that the president is gaining sympathy among his voters or compatriots. Not only because they have already tried to kill him three times. The most curious thing about the whole situation, leaving possible conspiracies aside, is the identity of the accused. The suspect of attempting to kill Trump was a video game developer… and not very good

The news never rests. A third assassination attempt has occurred in the US this decade, all three against the same person: President Donald Trump. With his popularity plummeting even further after this assassination attempt, it does not seem that the president is garnering sympathy among his voters or compatriots. Not only because they have already tried to assassinate him three times.

The most curious thing about the whole situation, leaving possible conspiracies aside, is the identity of the accused. Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California, does not seem to align with any political extreme and appears to have been motivated by his perspective that Trump is “a pedophile and a rapist,” something the president has categorically denied in an interview with journalist Norah O’Donnell on CBS.

Although what stands out the most about this situation is that Thomas Allen also had a hobby. Developing video games. At least one of these video games was published on Steam and, although it wasn’t exactly popular before his assassination attempt, it gained popularity once the events of April 25 occurred. This has led Valve to take action.

A video game that has caused controversy

Under the name Cole Allen, on December 20, 2018, he released a game called Bohrdom on Steam. Defined as “an atomic fighting game,” it is an asymmetric fighting game based on chemical models where we have to choose to play as a nucleus or an electron and try to dodge the attack patterns of the opponent, or use the attack patterns to take them down. Mixing elements of pinball and shoot ’em up, the game is basic, graphically underdeveloped, and not very fun; it’s easy to understand why it didn’t stand out among the multitude of games on Steam.

With just two reviews after its release, the game was buried for years among the tens of thousands of video games available on the platform. Until the assassination attempt on Donald Trump brought the game to light. This gave it a new life.

In just over 24 hours after the attack, the game accumulated a significant amount of sales, which translated into just over 120 reviews of the game. Most of them were humorous comments about the assassination attempt on the US president, jokes about the relationship between the game and assassinations, or political comments, very few of them talked about the game itself. This led Valve to remove the game from the store and block reviews made after April 24.

Although Valve has not issued any kind of statement regarding this, it seems logical that they would withdraw the game from circulation when it is made by someone accused of murdering a high-profile public figure. Especially since Valve has a policy, since 2019, that in the event of a flood of reviews that do not correspond to the content of the game, they reserve the right to remove the reviews from a certain date, or even withdraw the game until they speak with the developers. Something that is now impossible for obvious reasons.

Right now, it is impossible to buy Bohrdom on Steam or any other platform. Although it is little more than a curiosity, since the game is not going to win any awards for its originality or quality, it demonstrates two things: how everyone is more about what they know and how the Internet will always turn everything into a joke. Although it may not necessarily amuse Valve.

Windrose, the latest survival phenomenon on Steam, has had a notable impact on Valve’s platform since its early access launch. However, the studio Kraken Express has announced that no major content update will be released for at least six months. Instead of rushing to offer new features, the team has decided to focus on improving the stability and existing systems of the game.

First, we need to solve some little problems

This decision has been made after observing that many players have already completed the current narrative missions, generating high expectations and a certain urgency to receive new content. Our philosophy now is to enrich the current game, rather than just adding new biomes, stated a representative of the studio. In this way, the team aims to ensure a more robust experience for players before expanding the map or introducing new significant elements.

Meanwhile, as part of its commitment to improving communication and user experience, Kraken Express has launched a new official support website. This website is designed to centralize solutions to common problems and facilitate interaction with the community, thus replacing the support that was previously provided through Discord.

In addition, the developers are working on a patch that is expected to be released in early May. This patch will address several critical issues, including connectivity problems, CPU usage, and overall performance. The efforts are aimed at resolving minor bugs that have been reported by the community in recent weeks.

Windrose continues to capture the attention of players, but the current focus of the development team is to ensure that the game runs optimally before expanding its content. The community will continue to wait, at least for now, while improvements are implemented and the groundwork is laid for future developments.
