These easily consumable productions have often been labeled as fun but forgettable. However, in recent months, some of them have transitioned from being mere entertainments to surprising works, such as the thriller Deep Cover, which has stood out for its narrative intelligence.

To enjoy with a slush and disconnect

The latest addition to this trend is Heads of State, which has just been added to the platform’s catalog, an action comedy starring John Cena and Idris Elba, that addresses power dynamics and politics in a humorous context. Although the film has issues with its writing and character development, Ilya Naishuller’s direction infuses explosive energy into the action sequences, with stylized cinematography and fight choreography that stands out compared to the political scenes that are less engaging.

The film introduces Cena as Will Derringer, a charismatic character with a cinematic background similar to that of Marvel action heroes, in contrast to Elba, who plays Sam Clarke, a former British soldier now Prime Minister.
