Alan Wake 2 sells over two million, but it is still facing the costs incurred

It seems like a long time since the release of Alan Wake 2, but it was in October 2023, and it has reached the impressive figure of over two million units sold, according to Remedy Entertainment in a recent financial report. This success, although notable, being the fastest-selling title for the company, has been countered by expensive development and marketing costs, which totaled approximately 70 million euros. This presents a significant challenge for the title to start generating real profits, something that finally happened at the end of 2024. Control, the sequel to […]

It seems like a long time since the launch of Alan Wake 2, but it was in October 2023, and it has reached the impressive figure of over two million units sold, as revealed by Remedy Entertainment in a recent financial report. This success, although notable, being the fastest-selling title for the company, has been countered by expensive development and marketing costs, which totaled approximately 70 million euros. Control, the sequel

Despite this, Remedy has maintained its position in the market through smart business strategies. In February 2023, it acquired the rights to Control from its previous publisher, 505 Games, for a total of 17 million. Subsequently, in August, the company announced that it would self-publish Control 2, with Annapurna Pictures financing 50% of the development budget and obtaining the rights for film and television adaptations of both Control and Alan Wake.

Additionally, Remedy signed a loan agreement with Tencent that could convert into company shares, allowing the conglomerate to increase its stake. Although the company suffered a valuation drop of 7.2 million the previous year due to the cancellation of Project Kestral, a free live service project, it seems that its future is more promising. Remedy has several projects underway, including Control 2, a cooperative spin-off titled FBC: Firebreak, and remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, which are progressing in production.

Despite the obstacles, everything suggests that Remedy is ready to continue growing and excelling in the competitive world of video game development.

Remedy confirms what we already suspected: the universe of Alan Wake and Control has only just begun

Alan Wake 2 was one of the great games of 2023. With good reason. Remedy Entertainment showed that they have everything necessary to succeed with one of the biggest horror games in recent years. Visually spectacular, narratively exceptional, and gameplay-wise brilliant, it left us wanting more. More Alan Wake, but more of its universe in general. And it seems that we won’t have the chance to be left wanting more. We have only seen the beginning of the Alan Wake and Control universe. In an interview with IGN, Sam Lake, the […]

Remedy confirms what we already suspected: the universe of Alan Wake and Control has only just begun

Alan Wake 2 was one of the great games of 2023. With good reason. From Remedy Entertainment, they demonstrated that they have everything necessary to succeed with one of the biggest horror games of recent years. Visually spectacular, narratively exceptional, and gameplay-wise brilliant, it left us wanting more. More Alan Wake, but more of its universe in general. And it seems that it’s something we won’t have the chance to be left wanting more of.

We have only seen the beginning of the Alan Wake and Control universe

In an interview with IGN, Sam Lake, the creative director of Remedy, mentioned that the studio has “just begun” to establish the connection of a shared universe between its games. Saying that it is still “too early to talk about an end”.

Why is this? Because at least Alan Wake and Control share a common universe, with hints suggesting that at least Quantum Break would also be part of the same continuity. It all started with the AWE DLC of Control, which connected the game with the events of Alan Wake, and has been developed even more explicitly with the latest DLC of Alan Wake 2. Something that, according to Lake’s own words, will continue to be developed in the future.

In fact, it is something that is expected to continue developing in the near future. With Control 2 in development and with FBC: Firebreak, a cooperative multiplayer game set in the same universe with a planned release for 2025, it is expected that we will continue to see how this universe develops over the coming years. Although Lake has not given more concrete details about what we can expect to see, beyond that it will continue to develop through the already announced titles and others yet to be announced.

If we add to this that Alan Wake 3 is on the horizon, but a very distant horizon, it seems we have stories in the universe of Alan Wake and Control for many years. And we are glad about that. Because anything that comes from Sam Lake is always welcome.

In 2010, a video game broke all the molds and offered a unique experience like we had never experienced in the survival horror genre. Alan Wake, released by Remedy Entertainment, became one of the best action and psychological horror titles in recent years, becoming a cult classic in just a few years. So Alan Wake II had to arrive at some point, and now it has, managing to even surpass the first title.

Alan Wake has a crossover with Control in its new DLC… and Remedy announces a new game set in the world of Control!

Few studios garner as much goodwill as Remedy Entertainment. And there are good reasons for that. They create unique, very distinctive games with strong characteristics and a marked auteur tone. Whether it’s Alan Wake, Control, or even Quantum Break, it’s undeniable that they always strive to push boundaries, do something different, and create something only they can. This seems unlikely to change with their next game or their upcoming DLC. Alan Wake has a crossover with Control in its new DLC… and Remedy announces a new game set in the world of Control!

Few studios garner as much goodwill as Remedy Entertainment. And there are good reasons for that. They create unique, very distinctive games with strong characteristics and a pronounced auteur tone. Whether it’s Alan Wake, Control, or even Quantum Break, it’s undeniable that they always strive to break boundaries, do something different, and create something only they can. This seems unlikely to change with their next game. Nor with their next DLC.

Remedy Entertainment has announced FBC: Firebreak, a cooperative first-person shooter where we will play as an operative of the Federal Bureau of Control. That is, the agency featured in the Control series.

Previously known under the codename Project Condor, this is a cooperative multiplayer experience for three people focused on gameplay. As part of the FBC crisis management unit, our duty will be to restore order when the biggest crises erupt in the building. Therefore, our missions will always be the strangest, most dangerous, and darkest out there. For which we will be equipped with the most forceful and unnecessarily convulsive weapons and tools we can imagine. And if it’s tremendously fun in the process, well, the head office didn’t take that into account.

This announcement comes at the same time as the release date for the second DLC of Alan Wake 2, named The Lake House. With a release date set for October 22nd, a perfect date for us to enjoy it in time for Halloween, in this DLC we will play as Kiran Estevez, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Control, in charge of the Beta Investigations Unit, who will have to venture into The Lake House. A space in Cauldron Lake where the Dark Presence is wreaking havoc and, perhaps, escaping Alan Wake’s influence once again.

Although Alan Wake 2 will keep us entertained until then, we will still have to wait to enjoy Remedy’s next game. FBC: Firebreak will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC sometime in 2025. Additionally, it will be available on day one for both PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members as well as Game Pass Ultimate and PC members.
